The Horizons region extends over 22,200km2 – from Ruapehu in the north and Horowhenua in the south, to Whanganui in the west and Tararua in the east. Our purpose is to work with and for our community in the use and protection of our environment, managing our precious resources of land, air and water; as well as public transport and a key role in emergency management. At Horizons Regional Council we work to make our region a healthy environment where people are thriving, including our staff.

The role

We are looking for a People and Capability Officer who is a team player and willing and able to provide support to ensure an efficient delivery of our HR work programme. This permanent, full-time position, based in Palmerston North offers the opportunity to be involved with and gain experience in learning and development, policy implementation, recruitment, onboarding, safety & wellbeing, and remuneration processes, and be a key contributor to the success of these programmes of work.

About you 

You may be an experienced administrator with an interest in human resources or a recent graduate looking for your first role in a people and capability team. What’s important to us is that you have a can do attitude, strong organisational skills, able to communicate effectively and are able to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion. The successful applicant will have experience and skills in the use of Microsoft Office products, be able to demonstrate their collaborative working style and be comfortable switching between or working on multiple tasks at one time. As this role involves working with a wide range of staff within Horizons, the ability to build and maintain strong relationships will be important too.
