Manager of Plant Operations

The Manager of Plant Operations (MPO) is responsible for overseeing the telecommunications infrastructure and operations within the plant. This role ensures that all telecom systems and services are optimized for performance, reliability, and efficiency. The MPO will manage a team of plant field professionals, coordinate with various departments, and handle troubleshooting and maintenance of telecom equipment and systems. The MPO ensures operations comply with policies, procedures, and current federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Telecom System Management:Oversee the installation, maintenance, and upgrade of telecom systems, including phone systems, network equipment, and related hardware.

Ensure the continuous operation and reliability of telecom systems to support plant operations.

Implement and manage policies and procedures to maintain system integrity and security.Lead, mentor, and supervise a team of telecom technicians and engineers.

Conduct performance reviews, provide training, and support professional development for team members.

Coordinate with other departments to align telecom operations with plant needs and objectives.

Troubleshooting and Support:Manage and resolve telecom-related issues, including diagnosing problems and coordinating repairs or replacements.

Provide technical support and guidance to plant staff regarding telecom systems and services.Project Management:Plan and oversee projects, including system upgrades, installations, and expansions.

Develop project timelines, budgets, and resource plans; ensure projects are completed on time and within budget.Interface with service providers and vendors to negotiate contracts, manage service levels, and resolve issues.

Evaluate and recommend new products and services to enhance plant operations.

Compliance and Documentation:Ensure compliance with relevant regulations, standards, and industry best practices related to telecom systems.

Maintain accurate documentation for all systems, configurations, and procedures.General Qualifications:

Education:High School diploma or equivalent required.

Bachelor's degree in Telecommunications, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field. (Advanced degrees or certifications are a plus.)Experience:Minimum five years of experience in plant operations, including at least two years in a managerial or supervisory role.

Proven experience in managing telecom systems and teams, particularly in a manufacturing or plant environment.

Five years or more of similar or related work experience preferred.Skills:Strong technical knowledge of telecom systems, including VoIP, layer3 LAN/WAN, layer 2 Ethernet transport, twisted pair, fiber optic, hybrid fiber coax, and wireless access technologies.

Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to diagnose and resolve complex issues.

Strong leadership and team management abilities.

Effective project management skills, with experience managing budgets and timelines.

Proficiency with telecom software and tools, as well as standard office software (e.g., MS Office).Certifications:Relevant certifications are preferred.Personal Attributes:Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.

Ability to work effectively under pressure and manage multiple priorities.

Detail-oriented with a proactive approach to problem-solving.Working Conditions:

May require occasional travel to other plant locations or vendor sites.
