Posted Saturday, February 10, 2024 at 5:00 AMPOSITION OVERVIEWThe Fire & Life Safety Coop will be involved with development, design, inspection/audit, and administrative assistance activities to support LRI's consulting work for private and public sector projects. Under the supervision of an assigned mentor, the Fire & Life Safety Coop will assist on a variety of tasks related to Fire and Life Safety and Emergency Management services to assist the company's clients to develop and implement safety plans in compliance with applicable codes and standards.This position is on-site at our office in downtown Toronto. Some travel to sites in and around the GTA will be required. We are seeking a Coop Student from May 2024 through to the end of August 2024. This is a full-time position, 8:30am to 5:00pm, Monday through Friday.ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONSAssist with Fire Safety Plan and Emergency Plan preparationAssist in monitoring evacuation drills and producing reportsAssist in the review and interpretation of mechanical and electrical drawingsAssist with Fire Code compliance reviews and auditsAssist with the design and coordination of fire safety training, drills, and exercisesConduct risk assessments and auditsAssist with preparing Fire Warden trainingCommunicate with clients (i.e., telephone, email, and letter)Assist consultants when attending client meetings and meetings with Authorities Having JurisdictionAssist with proposal preparationTravel to client sites as requiredQUALIFICATIONSCurrently attending or recently graduated from a University or College program related to Fire Safety or Fire ProtectionInterested in the fire protection, life Safety, and emergency management industryWilling and able to familiarize yourself with the building, fire, life safety, and emergency management codes, standards, and best practices; Prior knowledge of and/or experience with the Ontario Fire Code is an assetTechnically oriented; good analytical and organizational skills; attention to detail; able to complete tasks and projects in established timelinesSelf-starter that exhibits a high level of initiative and resourcefulnessAn individual with high standards who holds themselves accountableVersatile and able to manage varying workloadsA real team playerPrior experience with AutoCAD is an assetProficient with Microsoft OfficeBilingual in French and English is an assetABOUT LRI ENGINEERINGEstablished in 1986, LRI Engineering Inc. is a Canadian engineering firm specializing in Fire Protection Engineering, Building and Fire Code Consulting, Fire Safety and Emergency planning Services.
