Our success will be built on amazing colleagues, working together.Job OverviewThe Senior, Fabric partners with New York and Hong Kong Raw Materials Teams to source and develop core and seasonal fabric palettes, focusing on price, aesthetics, and quality. This role requires a strong background in fabric development and technical skills, a high taste level in various fabric types, and an understanding of garment application.The Senior, Fabric oversees the entire fabric process from initial concept to bulk delivery, including researching, sourcing, allocating, and developing fabric based on seasonal design concepts, trends, and requests. Strong knowledge of sustainable materials and preferred fibers is essential.Reporting to the Senior Fabric Manager, the Senior, Fabric collaborates with Private Brands partners, including Design, Product Development, Sustainability, and Product Integrity and Quality Assurance.The Senior, Fabric ensures a thoughtful approach to developing new and elevated fabrics within the Raw Materials Team, ensuring mills meet Macy's criteria and adhere to established Raw Materials strategies.What You Will DoStrategy & Innovation:Drive the end-to-end fabric development process across multiple seasons, emphasizing innovation, productivity, efficiency, quality, and profitability with a focus on commercialization.Manage sourcing and development of core and seasonal materials for multiple brands covering knits, wovens, and sweaters, requiring strong technical proficiency in textiles and comprehensive knowledge of global sourcing.Translate design concepts into commercially viable materials at the appropriate price points.Operate within a cost framework that meets internal stakeholder needs while maximizing cost of goods sold (COGS) savings.Support the Raw Material Sourcing Strategy to minimize risk, enhance efficiencies, and optimize materials and suppliers.Drive sustainability initiatives ensuring mill compliance and fabric traceability.Collaborate closely with fabric suppliers and garment vendors to deliver innovative fabrics and provide technical support.Maintain seasonal development libraries and fabric tracking tools for seamless collaboration.Evaluate current fabrics, identify areas for improvement, and align with brand product roadmaps from allocation and cost perspectives.Communicate quality standards, performance attributes, and usage expectations to cross-functional teams through detailed review of fabric specs and testing requirements.Leverage established global relationships in sourcing and developing fabrics worldwide.Understand cost components to support effective negotiations.Establish clear guidelines for fabric and mill development, ensuring thorough upfront discussions to prevent off-matrix usage.Attend material exhibitions to research trends and identify potential new suppliers.Operations & Results:Collaborate with New York Raw Materials and Overseas Office Merchant to ensure quality execution and support cost negotiations to achieve margin goals.Maintain a comprehensive Fabric library with collections and development reference cards.Utilize PLM, Microsoft Suite, and design tools like Canva and Adobe XD proficiently.Ensure accurate and transparent data entry in PLM, creating material records and seasonal libraries.Optimize core fabric usage across brands to maximize savings and minimize overdevelopment.Adhere to seasonal milestone dates for timely project execution.Maintain accurate information and tools including physical libraries, PLM, and mill matrices.Partner with vendors to address quality concerns and resolve issues, including negotiation of claims if necessary.Collaborate with Sustainability team on mill transparency and traceability initiatives.Relationship Management:Effectively communicate and follow up with internal and external partners globally, including stakeholders, material suppliers, and garment vendors.Coordinate supplier meetings for seasonal development and trend research, presenting fabrics to New York Raw Materials with associated costs.Support New York Raw Materials, Product Development, and Design teams through prototype and bulk development phases to ensure alignment on cost and quality.Foster relationship building between vendor and mill partners.Skills You Will NeedFabric Development Expertise: Comprehensive knowledge of fabric development techniques, technologies, and applications, including sustainable materials.Global Sourcing and Supplier Management: Proven ability to source and develop fabrics globally, with established relationships with fabric suppliers and strong negotiation skills.Strategic Thinking: Ability to drive the end-to-end fabric development process across multiple seasons, emphasizing innovation, efficiency, and profitability.Project and Team Management: Experience managing projects and collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams, including Design, Product Development, and Sustainability.Operational Excellence: Proficiency in PLM systems and Microsoft Suite, with the ability to optimize fabric usage, maintain accurate data, and meet seasonal milestones.Communication and Relationship Management: Exceptional communication and presentation skills, adept at fostering positive relationships with internal and external partners worldwide.Adaptability and Problem-Solving: Entrepreneurial mindset with proactive problem-solving skills, able to navigate ambiguity, make decisions, and manage multiple projects simultaneously.Quality Assurance and Sustainability: Commitment to maintaining high quality and sustainability standards, including mill compliance and fabric traceability initiatives.Organizational Skills: Strong organizational skills, including maintaining comprehensive fabric libraries, tracking tools, and managing vendor relationships effectively.
