It is an especially exciting time to join Canadian Tire and its group of companies.The VP of Merchandise Operations is instrumental in leading the SportChek business unit Merchandising Planning, Allocation & Business Support teams (Pricing, Capabilities & Training, Merch Data Analytics, Merch, Data Governance, Merch Transformation). Reporting to the Chief Merchant, SportChek, this person is a key member of our merchandising leadership team. They will work closely with leaders from across the business and be influential in shaping the growth strategies, financial and operational plans of the SportChek and Atmosphere retail banners.At Canadian Tire we work flexibly, embracing 'Hybrid' whereby individuals utilize a combination of working at a CTC campus and or virtually in service of outcomes. Determined by managers, decisions around work location will be made based on business and team needs and grounded in a desire to support individual well-being and personal needs. There is no requirement to relocate to Calgary, however travel to Calgary will be required based on business needs.What you'll doResponsible for sales, margin and inventory planning, inventory management and allocation, in season forecasting, merchandise analytics & reporting, pricing execution, product & price data governance, the VP Merchandise Operations oversees critical merchandising functions and will drive advancement in merchandising capabilities.Collaborate with Merchants, Finance, Supply Chain, Store Operations, FP&A and Marketing to deliver financial plans while managing successfully against them.Own the Merchandise Operations overall strategic and capability development roadmap, driving effective, scalable, and resilient processes and tools across Merchandising functions while contributing to and driving banner strategies and KPIs.Oversee Sales & Margin planning and forecasting processes, developing in-season, annual and five year outlooks by category and channel.Oversee inventory planning, replenishment, and allocation processes. Identify opportunities to optimize inventory productivity, improve service levels and effectively manage open to buy dollars against in-season purchases.Influence business strategy and in-season management by turning data into insights, leveraging business and financial analysis skills to improve business performance and KPIs.Lead continual improvement of reporting solutions servicing the merchandising and merchandise operations teams.Own overall planning KPIs including inventory budgets, receipt timing, inventory turn, in-stock metrics, aged inventory, POS Sales and margin. Liaise with Finance and provide key inputs into annual budgeting processes and in season forecasts.Manage and lead a high performing Merchandise Operations team, including individual and team development, career pathing and coaching.What you bring10+ years of broad experience in merchandising, retail planning and inventory management with 5+ years at a leadership level.Strategic thinker who has strong business acumen; ability to assess and action resources to deliver on objectives.Strong analytical skills with a solid understanding of retail metrics and drivers to address cause & effect financials.Strong people management and leadership skills with a proven ability to develop, manage and motivate a large high performing team around a compelling vision.Demonstrated ability to prepare and communicate recommendations to Senior Leaders, articulating trade-offs.Effective relationship building and collaboration across groups, with ability to influence others.Problem solving skills.Acts as a change agent, with strong track record of driving results and business transformation.Comfortable working with ambiguity.About Canadian Tire CorporationAt Sport Chek, we want to find what moves you, and help build your career from there.
