Therapist III - Respiratory "Job Details" Job DescriptionThe Therapist III - Respiratory possesses expert knowledge of Pediatric and/or Neonatal cardiopulmonary anatomy and physiology. S/he has expert knowledge and clinical acumen in the use of all medical devices and techniques used in respiratory therapy for the Pediatric and/or Neonatal patient population. S/he demonstrates advanced level professional skills relevant to patient assessment, disease identification and evaluation, and administration of clinical therapeutic, interventional, and diagnostic care. The incumbent demonstrates the knowledge and skills to participate in education of the patient, family and public.The Therapist III - Respiratory is responsible for ensuring that all duties are carried out to the highest possible standard.S/he participates in the supervision and teaching of junior and new members of staff within the department.KEY ROLE ACCOUNTABILITIES: Provides unit based specialty leadership and direction in the performance of basic and advanced clinical procedures and interventions. Follows all hospital related policies and procedures. Participates in the development of evidence based policies and procedures relevant to Respiratory Therapy as needed. Acts in the role of Preceptor/Mentor for oncoming staff/students in all areas of clinical care. Collaborates with all medical, nursing and ancillary stakeholders to ensure a safe, clean and secure environment for patients, staff and visitors. Participates in Quality Assurance, Utilization Review and Performance improvement activities as required. Obtains and maintains all clinical core competencies of the Respiratory Therapy Services department. Responsible for maintaining up to date mandatory Life Support Training requirements as directed by MoPH and Sidra (e.g. BLS, AED etc.). Demonstrates culturally appropriate behavior whilst working within the State of Qatar. Participates in the promotion and maintenance of effective communication and teamwork. Treats colleagues, patients, and visitors with dignity and respect at all times. Upholds the organizational values at all times. Attends departmental staff meetings and education days to provide and exchange information. Participates in departmental and organizational committees, quality improvement projects and change initiatives, as assigned. Assumes the role of Charge Respiratory Therapist in the absence of Respiratory Therapy Supervisor presence/availability on shift. Upholds and keeps staff accountable to departmental and hospital regulations. Engages the on-call Supervisor in instances of uncertainty. Assumes a leadership role within the department by modeling expert behaviors and advocating for the Respiratory Therapy profession within the multidisciplinary setting. Reviews patient's medical history, conducts assessments of the patient's pathophysiological condition, recommends appropriate care and documents patient response outcomes in timely and accurate manner. Provides cardiorespiratory related diagnostic and therapeutic interventions, assesses and documents patient response in a timely and accurate manner. Sets up and performs quality control procedures and operates respiratory and laboratory equipment, making adjustments as necessary. Provides basic to advanced techniques in airway management. Initiates, monitors and assesses ventilator/technology dependent patients on an outlined basis. Recommends and administers individualized medical gas therapies. Ensures effective communication during handover, and end of shift report to ensure that the patient's needs for continuity of care and level of care are met. Provide emergency care as a member of Resuscitation, Rapid Response, and Transport Team as required. Upholds department mandated documentation standards; does so in a timely and accurate way. Adheres to Sidra's standards as they appear in the Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest policies Adheres to and promotes Sidra's ValuesIn view of the evolving needs and opportunities within Sidra, this position may be required to perform other duties as assigned and reporting relationships may vary.QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS - REQUIREMENTS ESSENTIAL Education 3 year Diploma in Respiratory Therapy or 2+ years Associates Degree in Respiratory Therapy or equivalent Experience 5 + years of recent clinical experience within Respiratory Therapy with 3+ of those years in a Neonatal/Pediatric tertiary level care facility Certification and Licensure Current registration and license (where applicable) from Country of Origin Eligible for licensure with the Qatar Council for Healthcare PractitionersJob Specific Skills and Abilities Evidence of effective communication skills Effective team member Motivated and enthusiastic Ability to critically analyze situations, make autonomous decisions and resolve problems Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite Fluency in written and spoken EnglishThe Therapist I - Respiratory possesses novice knowledge of Pediatric and/or Neonatal cardiopulmonary anatomy and physiology. S/he has novice knowledge and clinical acumen in the use of all medical devices and techniques used in respiratory therapy for the Pediatric and/or Neonatal patient population. S/he demonstrates professional skills relevant to patient assessment, disease identification and evaluation, and administration of clinical therapeutic, interventional, and diagnostic care. The Therapist II - Respiratory possesses intermediate-to-expert knowledge of Pediatric and/or Neonatal cardiopulmonary anatomy and physiology. S/he has intermediate-to-expert knowledge and clinical acumen in the use of all medical devices and techniques used in respiratory therapy for the Pediatric and/or Neonatal patient population. S/he demonstrates intermediate-to-advanced level professional skills relevant to patient assessment, disease identification and evaluation, and administration of clinical therapeutic, interventional, and diagnostic care. He/she demonstrates the knowledge and skills to participate in education of the patient, family and public. The Therapist I - Respiratory possesses novice knowledge of Pediatric and/or Neonatal cardiopulmonary anatomy and physiology. S/he has novice knowledge and clinical acumen in the use of all medical devices and techniques used in respiratory therapy for the Pediatric and/or Neonatal patient population. S/he demonstrates professional skills relevant to patient assessment, disease identification and evaluation, and administration of clinical therapeutic, interventional, and diagnostic care.
