Our environment and our peoplego hand-in-hand. This is a unique opportunity fora motivated and experienced Legal Counsel to join the Bay of Plenty Regional Council’sLegal and Commercial Team. This is a senior role withorganisation-wide responsibilities and a mandate for assisting capability andunderstanding of legal issues across the Council. The Bay of Plenty RegionalCouncil’s complex operating frameworks provide the scope for using yourspecialist skills and developing new ones across a wide range of legalwork. In this role you will be exposed to a range of areas of law andstakeholders relating to Regional Council’s various functions with a particularfocus on commercial and corporate matters. Reporting to the Legal &Commercial Manager, you will provide high quality in-house legal services andensure that external legal services received by Council are managedeffectively. You will be part of a team with a range of experience, includingspecialist resource management, commercial, and local government lawyers. Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Laws (LLB) Degree or higher;
  • Admission as a Barrister and Solicitor ofthe High Court of New Zealand; and
  • A current practicing certificate.
Experience
  • 8+ years post qualification experience,including corporate and commercial expertise;
  • Experience with local government and / orthe public sector would be advantageous;
  • Excellent technical skills, drafting andnegotiation experience; and
  • Experience and interest in privacy and /or information technology is desirable.

The position can belocated in Regional Council’s Tauranga, Whakatāne or Rotorua offices dependingon the successful candidate. The recruitment salary range forthis position will be approximately $129,000 to$152,000 andwill be determined depending on the skills and experience of the successfulapplicant.
