Senior Engineer, Software Safety

The RoleThe Senior Engineer, Software Safety position will report to the Director, Embedded & Software Safety and support the creation of reliable, safety-critical software that monitors and controls the vehicle. This position requires exceptional software engineering skills, understanding of the full development life cycle, attention to detail, and ability to learn in unstructured environments.Duties & ResponsibilitiesLead the architecture, design, implementation, and delivery of safety mechanisms and embedded componentsSolve complex system safety problems with elegant solutions and apply judgment and experience to balance trade-offs between competing interestsDevelop/document software in C and C++ through all phases of the development lifecycle: concept, requirements, design, architecture, implementation, unit test, integration (HIL), and vehicle level system evaluationPlay a significant role in mentoring and educating the team and organization on software & system safety best practices, processes and toolsContribute generally to the growth and success of the Company and the building of a vibrant culture focused on the responsible deployment of zero-emission autonomous vehicle technologyWhile this is an accurate reflection of the position, Outrider reserves the right to require additional/different tasks to be performed as neededRequired QualificationsExperience developing application software in C and Modern C++Experience developing safety significant application softwareExcellence at creating/documenting software requirements and architecture designsDemonstrated strong leadership, people skills and cross-functional collaborationExcellent understanding of the software development life cycleExperience with GitBackground developing software in a Linux environmentIdeal QualificationsExperience developing software for autonomous vehicles or mobile robotsProfessional experience using perception sensors (e.g RADARs, LIDARs, cameras…) for safety applicationsFamiliarity with functional safety specifications, including ISO 26262 and IEC 61508Experience working with ROS or ROS2Familiarity with real-time operating systems (RTOS), CAN, and EthernetFamiliarity with PythonFamiliarity with vehicle modeling and motion planning techniquesFamiliarity with Security for Embedded SystemsMaster's degree in computer science or computer engineeringCompensation & Benefits Competitive Compensation PackageOwnership of projects from day one, highly collaborative teams and a dynamic work environment100% Remote work set up, flexible work schedule (Flex time-off policy)Annual career development stipend to support and encourage your career growthAllowance for home office set upBusiness traveling in our headquarters in Denver, Colorado (3-4 times/year) to stay connected with the team
