JOB SUMMARY
Reporting to the Director of Communications, the Senior Communications Advisor - Education and Training supports Inuit Tapiriit Kanatami's (ITK) overall mandate of advancing the rights and interests of Inuit. Specifically, the Advisor is responsible for managing all aspects of an experiential learning program for Senior Federal Government Executives, which runs twice a year. Key areas include presenting to Senior Federal Officials, traveling with the group, facilitating discussions in Ottawa and while traveling, leading training modules, running the application and registration process, coordinating logistics with the four Inuit Regions, and collaborating with federal government departments as required. This program operates with its own budget and the Advisor is responsible for budgeting for this program in collaboration with other members of the Communications department.
The Senior Communications Advisor - Education and Training is also responsible for developing training modules and managing a virtual and Ottawa-based in-person training program for government and other ITK partners. Additionally, the Advisor works to implement core training deliverables of the Inuit Crown Partnership Committee, policy advancement and research workplans.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
PRESENTING AND TRAINING
Developing and presenting training materials
Facilitating discussions and leading conversations on Inuit priorities and realities
Developing and implementing an evaluation system for the training program
COORDINATION
Overseeing the coordination of flights, accommodations, meals, and other requirements for the program
Coordinating with Inuit Regions on setting up an agenda, including all logistics (community visits, meetings, feasts, land excursions, daily debriefs, etc)
Working with ITK staff on the planning and delivery of the program
Liaising with government and other partners to schedule the Ottawa training program
COMMUNICATIONS
Writing content for ITK publications
Focused media interviews or create content for ITK publications as required
Presentations about Inuit priorities and political structure to audiences, like Government, as required
ADMINISTRATION
Overseeing the application and registration process
Writing letters, invitations, briefing notes and developing agendas
Ensuring the program is eligible and compliant under government of Canada rules, including accreditation
QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of Inuit Regions, history, and political structure
Ability to use Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and Outlook)
Writing and content creation and basic photography
Flexible and adaptable to changing circumstances
Must have excellent oral and written communication skills (primarily in English; Inuktut and/or French an asset)
Well-spoken and clear communicator
EXPERIENCE
5 years or more working with an Inuit or Indigenous organization
Facilitating group discussions
EDUCATION
Any combination of education and experience providing the required skill and knowledge for successful performance is evident
