Requirements
Education: Cardiothoracic surgeons must complete a medical degree program. They typically earn a Bachelor of Science in pre-medicine, complete pre-medical coursework and earn a bachelor's degree in a science field, such as biology or chemistry.
After completing their undergraduate degree, aspiring cardiothoracic surgeons must earn a medical degree. They typically spend four years in medical school, where they study anatomy, physiology, pathology, pharmacology, biochemistry, psychology, ethics and medical law.
