Scope of the Assignment

RNW Media is committed to ensuring the safety, well-being and rights of those who come into contact with our work and of our partners.

This is why we are looking for a highly innovative and motivated English and Arab-speaking integrity and safeguarding specialist to lead the roll-out of a support structure to a group of organisations (RNW Media partners) involved in the Masarouna programme. Masarouna is a 5-year programme that mobilizes the power of young people in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) regions to claim their sexual and reproductive health and rights.

The main goal of this assignment is to help representatives of our 12 partner organisations define, initiate (or continue) and advance in a safeguarding pathway tailored to their needs.

This may include but is not limited to: raising awareness around safeguarding policies and procedures affecting the organisation's staff and individuals and communities participating in Masarouna, supporting in assessing existing safeguarding systems, identifying areas for improvement or offering individual coaching.

The consultant is expected to incorporate existing e-learning programmes (in English and/or Arabic) in the capacity strengthening process in order to ensure efficient use of time and the ability to offer tailored support. Upon completion of the assignment, the specialist will deliver a final report summarising learnings, insights and recommendations gathered throughout the process.

Key Deliverables

By the deadline agreed upon with RNW Media, the Safeguarding expert consultant is expected to have delivered the following:

Workplan, including preparation and closing tasks (to be devised in collaboration with RNW Media process coordinator)

Design and implementation of a learning pathway for each of the 12 partner organisations participating in the process with clear learning objectives

Final report

Activities

The safeguarding expert is expected to perform the following activities in order to successfully deliver on the items above. The details of the assignment are to be discussed and agreed on with RNW Media's process coordinator, also based on the partners' expected level of commitment:

Familiarise yourself with RNW Media's integrity system, safeguarding policy and reporting mechanisms (will be shared)

Familiarise yourself with the general principles of Masarouna's safeguarding approach (will be shared)

Go through 12 partner organisations' safeguarding self-assessments, confirm their safeguarding maturity and identify priority needs

Conduct short introduction interviews with safeguarding focal points at partner organisations

Select the relevant e-learning modules in English and/or Arabic from the below websites to support partners in identifying areas for improvement and learning needs:

Design a learning pathway on safeguarding that combines group (14 individuals) with one-on-one support, following the principles of mutual capacity strengthening and peer-to-peer support

Identify and incorporate in the pathway capacity building activities that work towards sustainability and ownership, ensuring full participation of the people concerned

Implement the learning pathway (8 to 10 weeks), providing individual and group support throughout to participants

Document and report on progress, outcomes, insights, learnings and recommendations from the process and where relevant, co-create awareness raising material

Maintain regular communication with RNW Media process coordinator

Minimum requirements

Minimum of 3 years work experience in integrity and safeguarding in an international non-profit setting;

Expert knowledge and understanding of integrity and safeguarding procedures, practices and reporting mechanisms in line with international standards;

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills in Arabic and English, both written and verbally.

Strong communication skills, with the ability to communicate detailed concepts clearly and concisely both in writing and verbally;

Experience working with organizations and their leaderships for improved results and strengthened (safeguarding) systems

Experience with designing and facilitating interactive and engaging online learning sessions, workshops or trainings and providing remote support

Contextual understanding of working in international development

Ability to work productively with little supervision

Remuneration

The remuneration, payment schedule and conditions will be discussed with the consultant. The remuneration will include a consultancy fee and compensation for costs made for e.g. field research, admin, logistics or software.
