1. Ensure children's health, safety and security at all times.
2. Attend to children's basic needs by assisting them in meal times, dressing up, or using the
toilet.
3. Serve all children without bias or favoritism.
4. Teach basic skills such as color, shape, number and letter recognition, personal hygiene, and
social skills.
5. Establish and enforce rules for behavior in the classroom
6. Read books to class
7. Teach proper eating habits and personal hygiene.
8. Organize and lead activities designed to promote physical, mental and social development,
such as games, arts and crafts, music, storytelling, and field trips.
9. Establish clear objectives for all lessons and activities, and communicate and demonstrate
those objectives to children.
10. Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students' varying needs and
interests.
11. Observe, assess and record each child's progress each term and when required.
12. Observe and evaluate children's performance, behavior, social development, and physical
health.
13. Identify children showing signs of emotional, developmental, or health-related problems, and
discuss them with management, parents, and child development specialists.
14. Supervise, evaluate, and prepare assignments and guidelines for teacher assistants.
15. Discuss with other teachers and staff members to plan and schedule lessons, activities and
events promoting learning
16. Collaborate with and support all staff members in the smooth running of the nursery
17. Plan and supervise special class activities, trips, visits by guests, or other experiential
activities, and guide students in learning from those activities.
18. Maintain accurate and complete student records as required by nursery and Ministry
regulations.
19. Prepare reports on students and activities as required by management.
20. Organize, store and order when needed inventory of classroom equipment, materials, and
supplies.
21. Organize and label materials, and display students' work in a manner appropriate for their
ages and perceptual skills.
22. Meet with parents to discuss their child's progress and needs, and suggest ways to
promote learning and development.
23. Support and assist in events such as sports days, graduation day, and other programs and
events in nursery
24. Undertake some playground duties and supervision during play times and whenever
required.
25. Keep up to date with changes in the curriculum and developments in best practice.
26. Attend staff meetings and teacher training workshops where necessary in order to maintain
and improve professional competence.
Skills
Communication Skills: Teachers must be able to speak clearly to students, other teachers,
parents and staff.
Teaching Ability: Teachers will have to explain new ideas and unfamiliar concepts with
authority and in a clear and concise way so that students can understand. They must work to
keep the students' attention.
Writing Skills: Teachers write progress reports, notes home for parents etc. Writing skills are
critical.
IT skills: skill in operating a personal computer utilizing a variety of software applications and
equipment
Ability to work effectively and supportively as a member of the nursery team
Ability to work in an organised and methodical manner
Ability to act on own initiative, dealing with any unexpected problems that arise
