Purpose of the Job: Reporting to the Operation Manager, the Shift Charge Engineer will be responsible for leading an Operations Shift Team to ensure the plant meets the required availability, reliability, efficiency, generation, and cost targets, safely and within strict environmental limits. This will include responsibility for making accurate and timely decisions on matters affecting plant processes and performance and consulting with the Plant Operations Manager when necessary. The role will require a detailed understanding and practical experience of the technologies associated with operating a modern Gas Turbine plant, Desalination plant, and a wide range of auxiliary equipment. This role requires working on rotational shifts and involves working during nights and public holidays. Key Accountabilities:

  1. Safe and efficient delivery of high levels of commercial availability within environmental limits.
  2. Maintaining high standards of management and leadership.
  3. Ensure that efficiency and availability targets are effectively communicated and achieved.
  4. Perform the roles of Safety Controller and Safety Coordinator under HPC Safety Rules system.
  5. Manage technical and safety incidents at site in accordance with site procedures.
  6. Effective liaison with customer and system operator over plant operational issues.
  7. Make decisions, or assist others to make decisions, to resolve plant operational problems with immediate, medium, and long-term consequences.
  8. Lead and motivate the team by setting appropriate people and plant related performance measures.
  9. Deliver outcomes, in all areas of work, consistent with the Quality, Health, Safety, and Environmental policies.
  10. Ensure Company Health, Safety, and Environmental policies and procedures are implemented and carried out.
  11. Participate in internal/external Quality, Health, Safety, and Environmental audits and monitor relevant findings.
  12. Ensure all procedures and documentation are maintained.
Technical Requirements:
  1. Understanding of modern CCGT plant and desalination process operating practices.
  2. Good foundation and practical knowledge of power plant operations, preferably including electrical systems.
  3. Power plant engineering concepts.
  4. Strong understanding of Quality, Health, Safety, and Environment management systems, safety rules (to safety controller level), and associated legislation.
  5. Working knowledge of commercial contracts and agreements (PWPA, OMA, GSA, etc.).
  6. Exposure to Budget and cost control.
  7. Good command of the English language.
  8. Computer literacy.
  9. Possesses the ability to liaise with external organisations and internal stakeholders.
  10. Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
