The Location: Synonymous with great food, wine, waterways and weather, this is a fantastic location to spend a few months. This regional cathedral city boasts a diversity of cultural, outdoor and sporting activities seldom found anywhere else. Located only two hours north of Melbourne, the area features magnificent food and wine, glorious weather and all the attractions and activities you could imagine in a regional city. Restaurants abound throughout the region, offering an international taste experience to suit all palates. The Facility: This is a 228 bed acute and extended care facility which provides surgical, medical, paediatric, obstetrics and gynaecology, intensive care and psychiatry services as well as extended care and regional services servicing a catchment population of around 90,000. A high incidence of road accidents, skin cancer, farm injuries and work safety accidents occur in the region. Population numbers swell during the fruit harvest season when an estimated 10,000 itinerant workers from throughout Australia and overseas visit the region. Snake bites, cuts, scratches to the eyes from branches, injuries caused by falling from a fruit picking ladder and allergic reactions are among the most common conditions treated during this period. The Role: You will be responsible for providing Anaesthesia and Perioperative Medicine services for Elective and Emergency Surgery, Acute Pain Management, Perioperative Care Clinic and participate in a one-in-ten On-call Anaesthetic Consultant roster. You will also have the chance to contribute to teaching and training students at both an undergraduate and postgraduate level, and participate in clinical research.
