Job Overview: An experienced Project Engineer is sought to lead small to medium-sized alternative energy projects. The successful candidate will bring over six years of expertise, particularly in the engineering design and procurement of hydrogen, CO2, biogas, and waste-to-energy projects. This role involves managing multidisciplinary teams, maintaining strong client relationships, and delivering successful project outcomes. Key Responsibilities:
- Manage and execute feasibility studies, FEED (Front-End Engineering Design), and detailed design projects, focusing on alternative energy initiatives such as hydrogen, CO2, biogas, and waste-to-energy.
- Develop novel design concepts through feasibility studies and FEED, ensuring alignment with client goals and facilitating FID (Final Investment Decision).
- Stay updated on provincial and federal regulatory requirements and carbon credit frameworks, with an understanding of their impact on emerging energy markets in Canada and the US.
- Coordinate effectively with clients, contractors, regulators, and interdisciplinary teams to align project goals and manage expectations.
- Prepare cost estimates, manage budgets, and implement cost-saving strategies.
- Review and edit technical documents, including Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs), Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), and vendor equipment drawings.
- Apply in-depth knowledge of facility engineering and design, including gathering, processing, and transportation systems.
- Demonstrate strong decision-making and problem-solving abilities.
- Bring experience with environmental engineering projects, including wind power, solar power, biofuels, water treatment, or waste management.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable local, provincial, federal, and industry regulations and standards.
- Proven expertise in managing alternative energy projects in the renewable energy sector.
- Deep understanding of engineering design processes and industry standards within an EPCM (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction Management) environment.
- Strong interpersonal skills and a client-focused approach.
- Ability to address and resolve complex project challenges.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present to clients and stakeholders.
- Strong planning, prioritisation, and time management capabilities.
- Experience in designing and optimising thermal systems such as heat exchangers, boilers, and cooling towers.
- Skilled in identifying and implementing energy conservation and process efficiency improvements.
- Degree in Environmental, Process, or Mechanical Engineering (or related field) from a recognised institution.
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) or Licensed Engineer (P.L.Eng.) registration with APEGA is an asset.
- Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
