Chief Financial Officer | Engineering Consultancy Firm | London/Hybrid The Client: Harmonic is delighted to partner with a pioneering engineering consultancy scale-up on a retained basis. Our client has built a reputation for delivering innovative and sustainable engineering solutions across a variety of sectors. With a strong foundation, a team of over 800 dedicated professionals, spanning offices in multiples locations across the world, and annual revenues surpassing £100 million, the company is entering an exciting phase of growth. Combining a passion for cutting-edge engineering with a focus on environmental responsibility, they are primed to expand their influence in the dynamic engineering consultancy sector. The Role: To support their ambitious growth trajectory, the client is seeking to appoint a new Chief Financial Officer (CFO). Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and working closely with the board and senior leadership team (SLT), the CFO will play a pivotal role in shaping the strategic direction of the business and delivering a comprehensive finance transformation program. The successful candidate will have extensive experience in leading finance functions within high-performing professional services organizations, with a focus on driving process optimization, system automation, and commercial excellence. A proven track record in establishing a best-in-class FP&A function and embedding a data-driven culture will be essential, as will the ability to partner effectively with engineering and project delivery teams. The client is highly acquisitive giving this role the opportunity to get heavily involved with future M&A activity. Responsibilities:
- Lead the transformation of the finance function to support growth and deliver exceptional service to internal and external stakeholders.
- Enhance budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting accuracy across all business lines.
- Play a leading role in M&A, particularly buy-side
- Collaborate with the board and SLT to drive data integration, commercial data visualization, and improved decision-making capabilities.
- Build and scale high-performing teams to support operational excellence at scale.
- Partner with the CEO and SLT to deliver the company's strategic vision, with a focus on sustainable growth and long-term value creation.
- Oversee statutory reporting and ensure the highest standards of financial governance.
- Qualified ACA / ACCA / CIMA status.
- Proven record of managing finance teams at Director/C-Suite level.
- Demonstrable experience in scaling finance teams and driving efficiencies in professional services or consultancy environments.
- Exceptional commercial acumen and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Strong track record in supporting project-based or contract-driven businesses.
- Familiarity with scaling in fast-growth environments.
- Experience leading M&A activity, particularly on the buy-side.
- Previous experience within an engineering/energy or technical consultancy business.
- Exposure to businesses with £70M+ revenue.
