- Prioritizes tasks ensuring effective functioning of the unit.
- Follows the chain of command in reporting incidents or concerns.
- Participates in the department's Quality Improvements (QI) activities.
- Complies with Hospital Policy and Procedure regarding safety, infection control and security.
- Promotes incident, and customer complaint reporting to improve patient and family care.
- Uses selected measurement procedures, such as Joint Range of Motion (ROM) tests, manual muscle tests, and functional and coordination tests.
- Applies supportive and assistive devices accurately and in such a manner as to avoid possible harm to the patient or damage to the equipment.
- Applies appropriate modalities at correct dosages, correct length and intensity as deemed necessary by initial and ongoing patient evaluation.
- Ensures compliance with current American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA) documents, including Standards of Practice for Occupational Therapy and the Criteria, Guide to Physical Therapist Practice, Code of Ethics, and Guide for Professional Conduct.
- Ensures that services are consistent with the mission, purposes, and goals of the physical therapy services.
- Ensures that services are provided per established policies and procedures.
- Ensures that the process for assignment and reassignment of physical therapist staff supports individual physical therapists' responsibility to their patients and meets the needs of the patients/clients.
- Reviews and updates policies and procedures.
- Identifies departmental performance improvement issues and participates in performance improvement activities (e.g. chart reviews, revision of documentation forms, workflow studies, etc.).
- Re-evaluates patient care services and programs, and completes assignments in the departmental plan to improve services regularly.
