Senior / Principal Backend Engineer (Java)

Responsibilities: Offer strategic guidance to business and technology stakeholders on value propositions, cloud computing strategies, and industry best practices. Communicate technical strategies, processes, and requirements effectively across the organization. Collaborate closely with Product Owners and Managers to align development with the organization’s product vision and ensure timely delivery. Design and define the backend software architecture for the next-generation, integrated enterprise solutions suite. Lead cross-functional teams in designing, developing, and managing secure, scalable, cost-optimized, and robust cloud-based enterprise infrastructure across all phases of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC). Develop and implement automated CI/CD pipelines, DevOps practices, and change management processes. Participate in discussions on technical implementations, unit testing, code reviews, and backend architecture design and optimization. Maintain high engineering standards across all supervised software products, ensuring code maintainability, quality, operational excellence, and proper documentation. Conduct code reviews to ensure adherence to best practices and standards. Supervise, mentor, and support the Backend Engineering team, fostering career development for local and overseas members. Stay current with emerging technologies, languages, and techniques. Recruit and fill skills gaps within the Backend Engineering team. Requirements: Must have at least 7 years of relevant JAVA Backend architecture experience. Supervisory/leadership experience will be an added advantage. Experience in developing software/systems from scratch (0 to 1) will be an added advantage. Proven experience in developing and deploying secure, scalable, high-performance enterprise-grade microservices applications, preferably in Java, on established cloud platforms. Strong documentation skills for drafting clear requirements and product strategy specifications. Hands-on experience with agile methodologies such as Scrum, Lean, or Extreme Programming. Exceptional time management, capable of handling multiple projects and meeting tight deadlines. Proficiency in troubleshooting, debugging, and root cause analysis in large, distributed codebases. Analytical skills to anticipate solution outcomes and resolve complex problems effectively. Comprehensive knowledge of software engineering, current technology trends, and the SDLC. Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information. Excellent communication, collaboration, and leadership skills. Demonstrates responsibility, initiative, and a proactive mindset. Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and tackle challenges with a positive attitude. Willingness to provide hands-on support to the team and inspire them in a fast-paced environment. Flexibility to travel and work with offshore teams as needed.
