The Building Science Specialist is a technical leader within RDH and will involve the application of building science fundamentals to a wide range of buildings. You will focus on leading building enclosure consulting work from the investigation of building enclosure performance problems through to design and construction, with a primary focus on existing buildings. You will work with others to further develop and grow our services in British Columbia, including the integration of a climate resilience paradigm into their traditional building science solutions. The position will include the development and maintenance of client relationships, identifying and responding to project opportunities, developing and delivering building science service offerings, technical leadership, and the development of staff to support their services. In addition to the core technical leadership, this role also includes the opportunity to be a key contributor to the strategic direction of their Canada West region and to take on significant internal team leadership responsibility.What you will be doing:Manage and develop client relationshipsLead the team as project principal throughout all investigation, design and construction stages of existing building projectsParticipate as part of the team for early-stage services, including strategic advice for the integration of energy, building enclosure, heating/cooling and ventilation performance objectivesLead the continual development of the company's services and approach to best address the needs of our clients and the industryProvide expertise and guidance, input, or internal peer review for projectsUndertake project specific business development activities and proposal preparationProvide mentorship to staff and support their career development plansHelp to ensure delivery of services and products to meet company quality standards including development of internal processes and technical standards/checklistsAssist with the development and delivery of in-house and client education and training programsProvide technical leadership including sharing knowledge on the company's internal technical forumsNetwork within the building enclosure community, including authoring papers and speaking engagements at various industry events and seminarsHelp advance our knowledge as visible experts in our fieldWhat you must have:Bachelors or Masters degree in Engineering, Applied Science, or Architecture15+ years of experience in building science and engineering, with knowledge of architecture and construction with a focus on building enclosureField experience addressing site conditions and managing construction process and contract issuesDemonstrated business development experienceSuccessful relationship building experience particularly with developers, architects, building owners and other project team membersProven success leading projects involving large and small buildingsExcellent technical knowledge of building science, building enclosure design, and construction processesAbility to build collaborative relationships with clients, staff, and consultantsAbility to gather and diagnose information, interpret data and drawings, and assess conditions for multiple componentsAnalytical problem solving skills and strong investigative aptitude, including ability to troubleshoot and diagnose building performance issuesProven team player who fosters teamwork and cooperationFast learner with the ability to develop technical and interpersonal skillsExcellent ability to communicate complex technical information to staff, clients, and tradesExcellent ability to shift focus between changing prioritiesSolid project management skills and the ability to manage performance of othersExcellent verbal and written communication skills including presentation skillsStrong work ethic, eager to assume responsibility quicklyExcellent attention to detail and organizational skillsStrong desire and potential to be a leader in the industrySalary/Rate Range: $150,000 - $180,000
