ResponsibilitiesYour CommitmentReporting to the Department Head of Mathematics, the Assistant Professor should be an experienced educator with creative and innovating skills, capable of effectively planning, developing, and delivering courses in all areas of the undergraduate curriculum, especially second- and third-year mathematics and research methods courses within UDST's College of General Education. We are seeking an exceptional educator and researcher who excels in teaching and scholarship, actively mentors' students, contributes to institutional and community service, collaborates across disciplines, and pursues professional development initiatives.SkillsQualificationsEducation and Experience RequirementsEducationPhD in Mathematics or Applied Mathematics from a recognized institution is required.Post-graduate degree or certificate in education teaching methods, or equivalent, is desirableExperienceA minimum of three (3) years full-time university-level teaching experience following the completion of PhD studiesA combination of recent, relevant academic and/or professional experience may be considered an assetTeaching & LearningCommitment to UDST's mandate of excellence in applied and experiential teaching and learning pedagogiesDemonstrate fluent ability to design and deliver teaching materials across a range of courses using student-centered strategies with appropriate learning supportsCommitment to creating and evaluating authentic assessment tools that validly and reliably measure mastery of course learning outcomes while promoting lifelong learningDemonstrated ability to develop technology-enriched learning environments that enable students to be active participants in their own education.Digital literacy and demonstrated fluency in UDST's learning management system, and an ability to model and facilitate use of current and emerging digital platforms committed to student learning and feedbackManage the resources of the learning environment, including print, online, university, and community resources, student success strategies, and course portfolio documents required for program review and accreditation processesResearch & ScholarshipContribution to the advancement of knowledge through applied research, scholarship, publications, knowledge transfer or professional practice which would be expected to be international in its scopeA strong record or peer-reviewed research publications, especially in interdisciplinary areas such as applied mathematics, mathematical modeling, computational mathematics, or mathematics educationEvidence of contributions to Q1 or Q2 journals is highly regardedExperience in research supervision and grant acquisition is preferredProfessional Development & University ServiceCommitment to the effectiveness, vitality, and self-renewal of the teaching profession through self-driven continuous academic professional development and life-long learning.Participating in curriculum development projects to enhance cross-college and interdisciplinary collaboration initiativesPositive and sustained contributions to the universities' activities and initiatives including assignments to committee work related to curriculum, assessment, student success, and community outreach.Demonstrated aptitude of academic and information literacy skills.Stay aligned with current pedagogical trends in mathematics, education technology, and STEM fields through professional organization membership.Personal Skills and KnowledgeCommitment to creative thinking and analysis to make informed decisionsDemonstrate reliability, responsibility, and flexibility in managing the teaching and learning environmentEffective written and verbal communication skills in English; interpersonal skills that contribute to a healthy workplace environment.Collaborative and collegial spirit and a demonstrated ability to establish rapport with learners, colleagues, sponsor-employers, and members of the community.
