The Tata Group operates in more than 100 countries across six continents, with the mission 'To improve the quality of life of the communities we serve globally through long-term stakeholder value creation based on leadership with Trust.’ Job Title : Water Treatment Process Specialist (On Site) Job Location : Jagirod, Assam Reports to : Project Manager / MEP Lead Job Summary : The Water Treatment Process Specialist in the Semiconductor Assembly and Test industry is responsible for developing, managing, and optimizing water treatment processes that ensure ultrapure water (UPW) quality and compliance with the high standards required for semiconductor assembly and testing. This role involves a strong focus on sustainable water management, recycling, and minimizing water consumption, critical in the semiconductor value chain. The ideal candidate will have a background in the water business and expertise in water purification technologies, process control, and environmental sustainability, specifically tailored to the needs of OSAT facilities, where contamination control and water quality are essential to operational efficiency and product quality. Key Responsibilities : 1. Design & Optimization of Water Treatment Systems:

  • Design and optimize water treatment processes for producing ultrapure water (UPW) required in semiconductor assembly and testing.
  • Ensure the water treatment systems (reverse osmosis, ion exchange, UV treatment, etc.) meet the stringent purity levels needed for OSAT operations.
  • Continuously improve water treatment processes to enhance efficiency, reduce waste, and minimize energy and resource consumption.
2. System Maintenance & Troubleshooting:
  • Oversee the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of water treatment equipment, ensuring minimal disruption to semiconductor operations.
  • Monitor and adjust systems to meet specific water purity standards and process requirements for semiconductor assembly.
  • Implement proactive and reactive maintenance programs to prevent downtime and ensure consistent system performance.
3. Water Recycling & Reuse Programs:
  • Develop and implement water reclamation and recycling strategies to reduce freshwater consumption and improve sustainability in the OSAT facility.
  • Identify opportunities to reuse water from process operations, further aligning with environmental goals and regulations.
  • Track, analyze, and report water recycling performance to improve water management efforts.
4. Process Monitoring & Quality Control:
  • Maintain continuous monitoring of critical water quality parameters, such as resistivity, pH, total organic carbon (TOC), and particle counts, to ensure they meet OSAT-specific standards.
  • Utilize data analytics and automation tools to enhance real-time monitoring and control of water treatment processes.
  • Conduct regular audits and risk assessments on water treatment systems to ensure consistent operational performance.
5. Cross-Functional Collaboration:
  • Work closely with OSAT production, quality assurance, and environmental teams to address any water-related issues that impact product assembly or testing.
  • Collaborate with engineering and maintenance teams to integrate water systems into the overall facility management.
  • Coordinate with external vendors and contractors for equipment upgrades, repairs, and maintenance, ensuring compliance with industry standards.
6. Regulatory Compliance & Documentation:
  • Ensure all water treatment processes comply with local, national, and international environmental and safety regulations, such as those relating to wastewater discharge.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation of system operations, including performance logs, maintenance schedules, and compliance reports.
  • Prepare and present regular reports on water treatment efficiency, water usage, and compliance to senior management and relevant stakeholders.
7. Innovation & Continuous Improvement:
  • Stay up-to-date with emerging technologies in water treatment, with a focus on improving efficiency and reducing costs in semiconductor water management.
  • Lead efforts to innovate and adopt new materials, processes, and systems that enhance water treatment and recycling within the OSAT context.
  • Foster continuous improvement initiatives focused on water conservation, energy reduction, and cost savings.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related field; a Master’s degree is a plus.
  • Minimum of 15 years of experience in water treatment processes, with a focused experience in ultrapure water systems or the semiconductor industry, ideally within OSAT.
  • Strong knowledge of water chemistry, water purification technologies (e.g., RO, EDI, filtration), and water quality standards for semiconductor applications.
  • Experience with process control systems and water quality monitoring in high-purity environments.
  • Familiarity with environmental regulations and sustainability initiatives in the water business.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail in managing complex water treatment systems.
  • Excellent communication skills to effectively interact with technical and non-technical teams.
Preferred Experience:
  • Experience working in semiconductor assembly and test (OSAT) environments, with knowledge of the water requirements and challenges specific to these facilities.
  • Understanding of cleanroom requirements and contamination control practices.
  • Experience in water recycling and reuse programs in industrial settings.
