Mō te tūnga | About the role The Manager - Data Response leads a team responding to internal and external data requests across all of NZ Police. This is a highly complex and demanding role that requires in-depth knowledge of legislative requirements, using data to inform and influence, and exceptional team leadership skills. The Data Response Team extracts and manipulates data to respond to one-off requests as well as maintaining regular reporting products to meet the needs of internal (Police) and external customers. The team is also responsible for providing data related for Ministerial and official correspondence, responses to parliamentary questions, information requests (OIAs), publication of official statistics as well as updating policedata.nz and other information sharing arrangements. Key Accountabilities:
  • Coordinate responses to requests for data from a wide range of police members, the public, as well as partner agencies.
  • Manage organisational and reputational risk by ensuring that responses are consistent, accurate, aligned with the Police’s data strategy and policies and meet the high standard for open and transparent Government service delivery.
  • Approve and sign out responses on behalf of Police, seeking advice and escalating appropriately.
  • Provide expert advice on Police data holdings and ensure compliance with in-house and statutory standards.
  • Work with colleagues to seek opportunities to proactively expand the coverage of policedata.nz.
  • Coordinate and maintain systems for the recording and monitoring of delivery of requests.
  • Provide expert advice and assistance to staff preparing responses.

  • Demonstrated customer responsiveness and a focus on ensuring service requests are met with professional, customer-focused and timely responses.
  • An inquisitive mindset that is comfortable dealing with a wide range of topics on a daily basis.
  • Proven experience and ability to understand (or gain understanding) of Police data and tools, perhaps by having experience as a performance analyst, business analyst, or data analyst with a background in administrative data.
  • Knowledge and capability in ensuring legislative requirements are applied to all responses to requests.
  • Strong written communication and attention to detail is essential.
  • Excellent time management, prioritisation, and delegation skills. Ability to plan and prioritise responsibilities and day-to-day deliverables based on request type, priority, and effort.
  • A tertiary degree in a relevant field is required.
