Role Description The Cost Controller ensures financial efficiency across our restaurant group by monitoring and managing costs associated with food, beverages, and operations. This role includes tracking expenses, analyzing spending patterns, and implementing processes to improve profitability. As the group does not have a dedicated Purchasing department, the Cost Controller will also manage purchasing duties, working closely with the Finance and Operations teams to negotiate with suppliers and oversee inventory procedures. Key Responsibilities
- Track and control food, beverage, and operations costs across all restaurant locations.
- Implement and manage inventory systems to reduce waste and maintain stock accuracy.
- Conduct variance analysis to identify budget deviations and recommend corrective actions.
- Assist in budget preparation for food, beverage, and operational expenses; provide accurate financial projections.
- Oversee physical inventory counts and ensure accurate stock recording.
- Develop procedures to optimize inventory turnover and reduce spoilage.
- Manage purchasing responsibilities, including negotiating favorable terms with vendors and suppliers.
- Monitor supplier performance to ensure quality, consistency, and timely delivery.
- Prepare weekly and monthly cost reports with an analysis of key cost drivers.
- Generate reports on financial metrics like COGS, gross profit margins, and other performance indicators.
- Identify cost-saving opportunities and recommend process improvements.
- Work with restaurant managers and staff to educate them on cost control procedures and best practices.
- Conduct regular audits of expenses to ensure budget compliance and adherence to guidelines.
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a cost control or similar role, preferably in the hospitality or restaurant industry.
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Tally, Foodics) and Microsoft Excel.
- Strong analytical skills with a detail-oriented approach to problem-solving.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively across teams.
- Knowledge of inventory management and purchasing processes within a multi-location restaurant environment.
