About the Role
The Carlton Football Club is committed to providing an industry-leading environment for players and football staff that supports high-performance outcomes and positive mental health and wellbeing.
The AFLW Psychologist is primarily responsible for helping to foster an environment that strives for high performance and nurtures player wellbeing, while also providing professional care and support for players in the AFLW program who are experiencing mental ill-health.
The AFLW Psychologist reports to the Club's Wellbeing department and will work closely with the AFLW Player Development Manager to ensure the success of the role. This is a contract role and will ideally commence in June 2024.
Key Responsibilities
Build and maintain therapeutic relationships with players in the AFLW program.
Complete regular mental health screening and develop individual wellbeing plans for AFLW players.
Provide psychological formulation, assessment, interventions, and counselling support for AFLW players when needed.
Deliver a psychology curriculum to players, coaches, and staff in the AFLW program to foster a high-performance environment and to help players develop the psychological capacity for success.
Foster close and collaborative working relationships with medical and wellbeing staff, and provide timely feedback and guidance to other key staff (when appropriate and using professional discretion) to ensure players are supported and managed using a cohesive and holistic approach.
Analyse and interpret draftee psychometric test results (provided by the AFL), attend player interviews, and complete psychological reports to assist the recruiting department with decision making.
Experience, Skills and Attributes
Registered Psychologist with the Psychology Board of Australia (PsyBA) and listed with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
Relevant Area of Practice Endorsement (for example, Sport & Exercise Psychology, Clinical Psychology, Health Psychology, Organisational Psychology, or Counselling Psychology) - desirable but not essential.
Demonstrated experience and success working in the AFL industry or an elite sporting environment.
Ability to effectively communicate and build strong interpersonal relationships.
Desire to integrate into a team environment and work collaboratively.
Experience with public speaking and development of educational material.
Competence in the use of psychological assessments relevant to sport and mental health.
Proficient at assuming responsibility, and capable of working unsupervised and being professionally accountable.
Deepened self-awareness and a motivation for professional growth.
