A diagnostic radiographer uses X-ray, Computed Tomography, Fluoroscopy, and Mammography to produce images of organs and body parts. Diagnostic radiographers assist in the diagnosis of injuries and diseases, and contribute towards establishing treatment plans.
Responsibilities:
Identify patients correctly.
Carry out radiographic examination as requested accurately and effectively.
Undertake a range of radiological services as requested by the physicians.
Rotation in all units/sections in the Radiology Department.
Maintain good patient care at all times.
Observe and maintain contact with patients during their waiting, examination, and post-examination stay in the department.
Initiate measures to ensure patient safety during procedures.
Perform theater radiographic procedures.
Comply with local radiation rules and the radiation safety program of the department.
Adhere to all health and safety regulations.
Ensure that the rooms and equipment are maintained and cleaned regularly.
Deputize for the senior Technologist when required.
Vary working hours as necessary to meet the demands of the department.
Maintain effective communication with colleagues, clients/patients, and other staff to foster good team working relationships.
Work effectively as a member of a multidisciplinary team to ensure that an efficient service is provided to patients.
Communicate with patients and others in a clear, respectful, and appropriate way.
Position patients safely for examinations and adapt standard techniques depending on medical conditions associated with disability, illness, or trauma.
Record imaging identification and patient documentation quickly and accurately while observing protocols to ensure compliance with the Data Protection Act and patient confidentiality.
Learn new techniques and technologies as required by professional bodies and participate in the annual performance appraisal program.
Notify the Chief Technologist at least two hours in advance of assigned reporting time if unable to work due to illness/emergency.
Perform any other official duties delegated by the Chief Technologist.
Check the quality of the film images and send them for reporting.
Ensure that equipment is in proper working condition and report any machine breakdowns to the Chief Technologist.
Report incidents of injury to yourself or others according to departmental procedures.
Assess patients and interpret clinical requirements to determine appropriate radiographic techniques.
Perform a range of radiographic examinations on patients to produce high-quality images.
Assist in more complex radiological examinations under the supervision of a radiologist and senior staff.
Use initiative to prioritize, deliver, and time-manage workload effectively.
Deal confidently with difficult situations.
Supervise assistant practitioners and other staff, delivering appropriate training.
Perform necessary administrative tasks when required.
Understand and observe health and safety at work and welfare issues, including ionizing radiation regulations.
Undertake quality control checks on x-rays and associated equipment and contribute to quality assurance and audit initiatives.
Ensure that equipment is regularly checked for malfunctions and report any faults.
Maintain high levels of cleanliness and tidiness within the department.
Job Summary in X-rays, Fluoroscopy, CT Scan, & Mammography:
Ensure the rooms and equipment are kept clean.
Explain to the patient before starting the procedure.
Ensure that necessary radiation protection is given to the patient.
Take x-ray as per the instruction given for digital processing.
Check the quality of x-ray before the patient leaves the department.
Send the images for reporting to PACS and perform conduction complete in HIS system.
Attend bedside x-rays and theater calls whenever required.
Give necessary instruction and appointment to the patient in case of contrast studies.
Carry out fluoroscopy procedures according to the instruction given by the radiologist.
Perform any other work/job as assigned by the Chief Technologist.
Minimum Requirements:
College Degree in Radiography or its equivalent.
Current license in the country of origin, with DHA License to practice in Dubai, UAE.
At least two years of experience.
The ability to apply technical skills, together with a demonstrable knowledge of and interest in sciences, such as anatomy, physiology, and physics.
Self-motivation and the ability to work under pressure.
Fluent spoken and written English; spoken Arabic is advantageous but not essential.
A supportive and caring disposition.
Adaptability and good time management skills.
Team working ability.
Confidence in dealing with stressful situations.
Basic IT skills.
