Given the growth trajectory of Venterra, the increasing complexity of the business and the geographic dispersion of their team members, Venterra is recruiting for a Director of Research, reporting to the Chief Economist.Job Overview:Venterra prides itself in its market-leading economic research that is often cited by Venterra's investors and followers as the best research in our industry. The Research team's key responsibility is to produce both thematic, actionable research and current analysis for Venterra's Quarterly Investor Letter. The team provides Venterra's senior leadership with timely, reliable, relevant market research and analysis, both macroeconomic and specific to the multifamily industry as well as competitive assessments. The Research team engages in the forecasting of rents for underwriting purposes together with key macroeconomic assumptions and projections that underpin both underwriting and the firm's broader strategic direction.The position of Director of Research is newly created, reflecting the growing importance of developing proprietary economic and market knowledge/insights on the performance of our portfolio. It is a role designed for an individual whose combined talents include an appetite for deep thematic research, a passion for economic modelling using the latest data analytics techniques and experience in creating financial and economic dashboards. Collaboration is key. Working with our team of data scientists, this role will provide insights that enhance our successful entry into new markets, new insights into existing markets, as well as continued improvement of our ongoing operations.Key Responsibilities:Thematic ResearchConduct thematic research of a specialized nature to contribute to the quarterly report, distilling the information and preparing relevant content. The role is expected to summarize facts, draw inferences and describe potential outcomes in a compelling way that will be valued by a highly sophisticated audience of Ultra High Net Worth investors.Market ResearchEngage in deep and detailed market research to identify existing demographics, major employers, employment rates, workforce profiles, income levels, political issues, climate issues, and the existing competitive landscape for multifamily. Forecasting changes in criteria and patterns is also an important dimension of this role.Lead or provide oversight of the investigation into new sites for potential investment and validate data that influences our presence in existing markets.Performance MetricsAnalyze competitors' performance relative to our own, creating comparable financial analysis and presenting conclusions in collaboration with our Financial Planning & Analysis team.Accountable for analyzing trends that may impact acquisitions and/or ground up development going forward.Data ModellingPrepare complex and novel economic, acquisition, risk and operating models to assess current practices, suggest innovative approaches and recommend actions that improve the performance of our portfolio.Qualifications:Master's degree in Economics, Data Science or a related field.Over 7 years of experience in the Data Science or Economics group within a Financial Institution, Pension Fund or global consulting firm.Proven experience in conducting in-depth and high-quality research projects.Superior verbal and communication skills.Excellent presentation skills.Proven ability to work both independently and collaboratively.Strong problem-solving skills, including the ability to analyze complex economic and financial information.Ability to travel to the US infrequently, as required.Venterra Realty is an equal opportunity employer.
