The Aga Khan University was founded in 1983 as Pakistan’s first private university. Aga Khan University is a not-for-profit institution and an agency of the Aga Khan Development Network. Starting in 2000, the University expanded to Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, the United Kingdom, and Afghanistan. AKU began life as a health-sciences university. The Department of Psychiatry has a strong commitment to undergraduate and postgraduate education, research, and clinical service. The Department offers comprehensive psychiatric evaluation, consultation, and treatment services in both inpatient and outpatient settings. Treatment modalities include pharmacotherapy, ECT, individual and family therapy, and behavior management techniques. Subspecialties include Child & Adolescent Psychiatry and Geriatric Psychiatry. An occupational therapy programme is attached to the inpatient and day care services. Formal structured undergraduate teaching and postgraduate residency programmes are integrated into the academic functions of the Department. Aga Khan University invites applications for the position of Manager in the Department of Psychiatry.
Responsibilities
You will be expected to administer the academic as well as research functions, hiring, as well as liaising with the clinical business manager across the University. Specifically, you will be responsible to:- implement departmental strategic plan, preparation of annual and monitoring goals
- liaise with other hospital departments for admin activities of the dept. e.g. Personnel for all recruitment, promotions, review of salaries
- manage annual departmental budgeting exercise including staffing, operating and capital requirements
- monthly review of departmental BVR and budget and take necessary actions
- monitor internal & external grant operations of the department and coordination with granting agency
- coordinate with Clinical Supervisor for day-to-day operations
- compile financial information from BI and present to Senior Leadership
- assist in OPPE preparation for faculty members
- review and provide financial approval for payments related to Psychiatry Department and Grants operations
- overall monitoring of Residency and Undergraduate Programs and Staff
- develop costing of short courses and coordinate with relevant departments for necessary approvals
- look after the credentialing and re-credentialing matters of faculty members
- monitor asset and other inventory of the department and take necessary actions when required
- overall monitor the management and secretarial staff
- keep track of departmental budget including faculty travels
- ensure compliance of timely completion of appraisals and all personnel related matters
- organize meetings regularly to address topics that the group would like to review
- take care of specific needs as identified by the Chair.
Requirements
You should have:- a Master’s degree in business administration / professional certification/diploma i.e. ACCA/ICMA will be preferred
- a minimum of three years of working experience in a hospital environment in a managerial position
- strong analytical skills
- excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- leadership traits to motivate and develop new services
- proficient in the use of MS Office applications, especially in MS Excel and dashboards
- excellent organizational capabilities and abilities to handle a diverse set of tasks.
