Waypoint cares about the people who work there and has a welcoming culture that values and respects equity, diversity, and inclusion for everyone.THE ROLEThis Director Pharmacy and Laboratory Service opportunity is an important leadership role within Waypoint. This Director administers and directs the operation of a comprehensive hospital pharmacy through collaboration with regional hospitals and Ontario Health and liaising with leaders and teams to integrate processes and services. The Director is committed to safety and security, and compliance with relevant health and safety legislation and policies. The Director oversees the Laboratory service through management of a third-party vendor and providing leadership related to policies and practices.RESPONSIBILITIESProvides leadership and mentorship to the Pharmacy Department and Laboratory Service teams, and manages the staffing needs, recruitment, and retention.Collaborates at a system level to standardize medication administration and laboratory practices across three mental health hospitals (Ontario Shores, Royal Ottawa, Waypoint).Provides leadership to ensure that all medication-related priorities and requirements are incorporated in patient safety.Establishes strategic objectives and manages budgets for the departments and programs consistent with the hospital's strategic and operational plans and priorities.Implements policies and processes for quality improvement, risk assessment and regulatory compliance.Fosters evidence-based practice and knowledge management, leading continuous improvement, and clinical best practices.Ensures drug control use and security of narcotics through maintaining monitoring systems, policies, and control of medications in accordance with federal regulations.Updates the hospital drug formulary and managing inventory of selected drugs and develops and operates an efficient and effective medication distribution system.Collaborates with regional hospitals to develop an efficient regional model of pharmacy services.Promotes safe medication practices and services in compliance to Ontario College of Pharmacists Accreditation Standards.Provides oversight of medication trials in collaboration with Waypoint Research.Ensures smooth operations of Pharmacy and Lab services.Coordinates with third-party vendors for after-hour operations and Laboratory services.Maintains a current emergency preparedness plan for Pharmacy and Laboratory Services.Required Knowledge and CompetenciesPharmacology, clinical therapeutics, and interpretation of legislation.Pharmaceutical databases and technologies to ensure efficient and effective pharmacy operations.Pharmacy Accreditation Standards and Laboratory Services quality standards.Change management skills to promote change aligned with the hospital's strategic directions.Excellent communication including consultation and representation at public forums.QualificationsBachelor of Science in Pharmacy or Doctor of Pharmacy degree, and a Masters degree preferred.Minimum of 5-7 years of progressive hospital management experience.Registration with the Ontario College of Pharmacists and member in good standing with the Ontario College of Pharmacists.Member of the Canadian Society of Hospital Pharmacists and the Canadian Pharmaceutical Association.
