About Potash

The Jansen project in Saskatchewan, Canada is set to become one of the largest potash mines in the world and is located approximately 140 kilometers east of Saskatoon.

BHP's CAD$14 billion (US$10.5 billion) investment in the Jansen project will deliver a potash mine in Saskatchewan designed to maximize sustainability. As the largest investment in Saskatchewan's history, Jansen is expected to generate approximately 5,500 workforce opportunities during construction and 900 long-term roles.

Jansen's construction will take place over several years with first production planned for late 2026. Once fully ramped up, Jansen is expected to have an initial production capacity of approximately 8.5 million Tonnes per annum (Mtpa), with the potential to produce 16 to 17 Mtpa in future stages.

This role sits within our Innovation Team, who are intrinsic in ensuring we are on the cusp of driving our technology and innovation projects towards the future we want to have - making us a greener, safer, successful and more sustainable organization.

We are building a team with experience across the mining value chain, from exploration and resource characterization to mining, processing and tailings and water treatment. While experience in these areas is a prerequisite, we are particularly looking for people who can reimagine the mining value chain, challenging the status quo and constantly asking "what if?" Within this team we aim to future-proof the mining industry through leveraging and de-risking emerging technologies to solve for known Asset challenges, enabling us deliver value today as we ambitiously reimage the mining operating model of tomorrow, positioning BHP as a leader in mining innovation.

Purpose

As part of BHP's Global Innovation team, known as TAD (Think and Act Differently), you will collaborate with the Potash asset and other functional teams to future-proof the mining industry through alignment of emerging technologies to solve for Asset challenges and to unlock the resources of tomorrow. In addition, the team enables the successful development, deployment and scaling of demonstration projects on site, in collaboration with our asset teams to drive value realization, enabling BHP to innovate for today and reimagine the mining operating model of the future. Locally, you will be part of a small business partnering team working in close partnership with our Potash asset and the broader BHP business, including other innovation sub-teams, deeply integrating across all levels of the organization, providing the necessary management to take ideas from concept to implementation. You will be responsible for taking innovation ideas and finding ways to develop, refine, and improve them so they are ready for implementation, resulting in significant value to BHP.

About the Role

In this role, you will:

Work with the TAD ecosystem, internal teams and external collaborators to identify innovative solutions, develop business case for opportunities and create strategy for implementation, including developing methods to test and refine technology.

Apply relevant test work data and develop a basis of design for process plant design and optimization with consideration to health, safety, and environment.

Utilize appropriate simulation packages to create mass and energy balances and validate process simulation outputs to optimize the representations of real operational processes, providing innovative solutions ready for the delivery team to implement.

Define value drivers and determine the boundaries of an opportunity to determine if it is worth further investment. Make evidence-based and strategic decisions that meet the asset requirements and unlocks future growth options across the short-, medium- and long-term horizons.

Lead through influence, collaborators, contractors, and external partners in their execution of the projects' objectives. Establish agreements between external partners to engage in the development of innovation.

About the Role (Cont'd)

Drive ongoing relationship management with the Potash asset, maintain a deep understanding of their operations, challenges and needs to translate these into key opportunity areas for innovation.

Foster opportunities to develop solutions by being active in the innovation ecosystem including internal expertise, universities, research institutions, industry organization and original equipment manufacturers.

Bring the project learnings to the global team and contributing to TAD's knowledge base.

Engage the capabilities of the entire organization.

Strive to achieve 100% safety, 100% customer value and 0% waste.

About You

Bachelor's degree or higher in Mining, Process, or Chemical Engineering, or related discipline.

Relevant technical and operational experience in potash, mineral processing, and/or industrial process.

Skilled in process/equipment development and evaluation in a laboratory and industrial environment.

Experience in implementing continuous improvements, designing alternative processes, and developing business cases for improvements.

Demonstrated ability to build and maintain strategic relationships with a broad range of internal stakeholders and technical experts.

Proven experience with innovation processes and engaging with innovation ecosystem.

Strong written and oral communication skills, with an aptitude for stakeholder engagement.

Work Location

Downtown, Saskatoon office. 40 hours per week. Hybrid working (flexible, shared workstations and a combination of office and work from home) is standard for BHP. BHP offers domestic relocation assistance to support the successful incumbent in transitioning, if required.
