Our focus is on developing cutting edge reliable embedded hardware that drive the next generation of home automation products and security systems.Job OverviewAs the Senior Embedded Hardware Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in spearheading the design, development, and deployment of hardware solutions integrating with software and cloud infrastructure. We expect you to be a hands-on engineer and be able to develop an electronics product yourself without needing any external supervision. Should be open to review the designs with industry experts and earn trust of the leadership team. You need to have an engineering first mindset with knowledge across disciplines like power electronics, firmware, embedded systems, certifications as well as mechanical designs.Key ResponsibilitiesHardware Architecture: Define and architect complex hardware systems combining power electronics and embedded systems for home automation and security applications.Design and Development: Hands-on involvement in designing and prototyping hardware solutions, including schematic design, PCB layout, component selection & optimization, and testing. Power Electronics: Design and optimise power conversion circuits, including SMPS and motor drives, dimming circuits considering efficiency, thermal management, and EMI/EMC compliance.Embedded Systems Development: Development of embedded firmware and software, ensuring seamless integration with the hardware platform and real-time performance requirements.Testing and Validation: Establish rigorous testing methodologies to verify design performance, reliability, and compliance with specifications and standardsTechnical Leadership & Collaboration: Build an electronics hardware team from scratch, hire a top quality engineering team and mentor them. Collaborate and work closely with the company founders directly to build an engineering first culture in the team and keep the team motivated with good engineering problems.Engineering Excellence: Engineering is not just about building products but also ensuring they work flawlessly in the production environment. Engineers should be as close to the customer as possible. This is the culture we would like to build in ATOM8 where engineers will be directly involved with the site issues and sometimes with customers to understand their problems and come up with solutions for customer problems quickly for the short term and also come up with design modification in the products for the long term.Documentation: Prepare detailed design documentation, specifications, and test reports to ensure clarity and traceability of the development process.Required Skills and Qualifications:Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical & Electronics Engineering, or related field.Proven experience (5+ years) in hands-on hardware design involving power electronics and embedded systems.Strong proficiency in schematic design tools (Altium, Cadence or others), PCB layout, and simulation tools.Using soldering stations, hot-air guns, and infrared ovens for PCBAPCB layout and schematic generation - digital, analog, and mixed-signal designsDevelop an environment of continuous improvement across the product lineProject scheduling/estimationDefining project performance requirementsDefining specifications, generating documentation, and iterating designs based on feedback from partnersManaging day-to-day experimental planning, data analysis, and prioritization of project-based activitiesDefine, design, implement and test software applications using a variety of technologies, including, but not limited to C/C++, Python, Git, and other scripting languagesExpertise in power electronics design principles, designing SMPS, analog/digital control techniques and thermal management.Proficiency in embedded systems development (C/C++, RTOS), microcontroller/microprocessor architectures, and communication protocols (SPI, I2C, UART, Ethernet).Experience leading technical teams, driving project execution, and managing design complexity.Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot complex hardware and firmware issues.Strong communication skills with the ability to articulate technical concepts and collaborate effectively across teams.Cross discipline Knowledge and understanding of mechanical housing and casing to be able to make decisions on not just the electronics circuits but also the casings and design for productions.What you need:Prior experience in the design and development of consumer/medical/defense technologiesPrinted Circuit Board schematic capture, layout, and routing including high-density and high-speed routingExperience working with ARM-based processors (i.e. Cortex-M, Cortex-A) from ST, TI, NXP, Nordic, etc.Volatile and non-volatile external memory (i.e. DDR3, eMMC, NOR/NAND Flash)Micro-controller and peripheral circuit design experienceWifi/BLE/NFC/Cellular modular implementation and debugging experienceExperience designing AC/DC SMPS & DC/DC buck/boost converters for low-power devicesTroubleshooting embedded systems and debugging tools using DSOs, Bench supplies, and Electrical meters.Writing test cases, generating and documenting test reportsUsing C or other programming languages for low-level hardware brings upUsing ST-CubeIDE, VSCode, C-based firmware development environmentsKnowledge of firmware debugging, device drivers, and unit testingFamiliarity with data structures, algorithms, and design patterns common to embedded (resource-constrained) systems developmentAdequate knowledge of reading schematics and data sheets for componentsEMC/EMI shielding mitigation techniques and troubleshootingDesign simulation and modelling tools like PSPICE and LTSPICE etc.Signal Processing and Conditioning circuits like Filters, Amplifiers, etc.Excellence in project management, organization and problem solvingAbility to interact with electrical, mechanical, and software engineers and work in a fast-paced, multi-disciplinary environmentFamiliarity with safety and compliance standards (UL, CE, FCC) for hardware designs.Knowledge of FPGAs, DSPs, and wireless technologies (Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, Cellular).Experience with agile development methodologies and tools.Experience in camera related designs is a plus.Why Join Us:If you are a builder you will fit right in.
