Job Description - Director, Planning Coordination (49738) Job Description Director, Planning Coordination Job Number Job Number : 49738 The Role:Reporting to the Branch Manager of Development Services, the Director of Planning Coordination will lead the City of Edmonton's plan and plan amendment, rezoning, and road closure reviews and the zoning bylaw team. As we work to advance City Plan's vision of creating a vibrant city where people and business thrive, this leadership position ensures services and operations related to subdivision planning and servicing are delivered in an efficient and effective way. The Director actively participates as a member of the Branch's leadership team, which involves decision-making on programs, policies and operational matters.The Director provides leadership and strategic management for a multidisciplinary team made up of planners, transportation and drainage engineers, planning techs and clerks.Goals and deliverables:Lead a multidisciplinary team to ensure land development proposals conform to approved plans, provincial legislation, Council policies, guidelines and directives, meets standards for safety and public health, and is compatible with existing infrastructure systemsFoster employee growth and engagement through coaching, feedback, and performance evaluation.Cultivate strategic partnerships with city building partners - evolve the way we work together, both internally and externally to reduce red tape, address challenges and support economic developmentRepresent the Planning Coordination Section at City Council and Public Hearing meetingsDrive alignment with corporate and departmental strategies, overseeing resource allocation and performance metricsEnsure prudent and effective use of financial resources in the conceptualization, direction and delivery of the workMaintain overall accountability for the section and ensure comprehensive, accurate and transparent reporting of key performance metricsApply GBA+ to the development and review of policies, practices and frameworks Qualifications Qualifications : Knowledge, training and/or education in Business Administration, Engineering, Urban Planning, Finance, Public Administration or other related disciplinesExperience managing multi-disciplinary teams accountable for large, politically sensitive and complex projectsAssets:A Master's Degree in a related field is considered an assetA Registered Professional Planner (RPP) or Professional Engineer (P.Eng) designation is considered an asset, along with other relevant designationsWhat does success look like?Lead and motivate teams while building healthy, respectful and inclusive workplace environments that enable staff to reach their potential while strengthening organizational capacityOperate as a strategically agile leader able to anticipate business opportunities and influence enterprise-wide policy planning and initiativesBuild new and foster existing partnerships with community organizations, business partners, external agencies, orders of government, and internal branchesFoster an environment that leads to strategies that are efficient, effective, and innovative Demonstrate strong political acumen and awareness of the reputation of the City, departments, and the branch when communicating with internal and external stakeholdersInfluence initiatives without positional authorityUnderstand complex municipal subject matter and build influential relationships with external agencies and orders of government and successfully bring together political/stakeholder and operational efforts to achieve common goals Demonstrate service excellence, embracing diversity and promoting inclusivenessPresent complex ideas to diverse audiences and establish clear expectations Demonstrate alignment with the Cultural Commitments of Safe, Helpful, Accountable, Integrated and Excellent, fostering an environment for others to do the same.
