ROLE SUMMARY The communications team is responsible for developing and delivering campaigns that celebrate the value and impact of Pfizer’s medicines and vaccines, our role in transforming health and care, and the significant contribution of our breakthrough science to society. In this role, the successful candidate will lead the design and delivery of local external communications activity in Ireland. The communications senior manager is responsible for establishing and promoting Pfizer’s positive reputation in the local market, through core comms activities including active and reactive media relations, social media activities, medicine and vaccine communications (as per local regulations), profiling of the Pfizer sites and senior leader engagement. The successful candidate takes ownership for developing and securing funding for the annual communications operating plan, ensuring impactful activities which support our corporate, policy and trust-building priorities across all Irish sites and business areas. They will also provide ongoing strategic comms advice to the Country Manager, Country Leadership Team and other site leads, optimizing external engagement opportunities and containing reputation challenges. The communications strategy in country takes place in coordination within the regional comms team (as a direct report) as well as in the country leadership team (dotted line to the country manager) and alignment with other site leads to ensure a coordinated, All Ireland approach to external engagement. The role also coordinates closely with other local Corporate Affairs colleagues in the policy and public affairs team and aligns activity with the designated Corporate Affairs SPOC (single point of contact). Key areas of focus include:
  • Active and reactive media relations; media pitching; developing top tier relationships
  • Market lead for issues, crisis and corporate reputation management
  • Content creation for corporate digital channels (social media, country website(s); if applicable: ownership of corporate social media channels including CEPs
  • Identification of opportunities and preparation of executives for external activities related to public or media
  • Development of strategies for corporate comms and Pfizer sites as well as selected priority brands
  • Oversight and coordination of corporate communication agencies
  • Secure and oversee local comms budget
  • Administrative responsibilities like material approvals, contracting and use of all compliance systems and processes (as appropriate and required)
  • Co-ownership of local corporate affairs plan with policy and public affairs
  • Act as guide and approver for in-market public facing activities
RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Lead the conversation in an external environment, with a key focus on media and social media, to build and protect the company’s reputation and trust base.
  • Act as key company spokesperson to media and provide communications support to other key stakeholder engagements.
  • Translate global/regional guidance into local strategies and activities, aligned to the existing local corporate affairs strategic plan and policy areas of focus.
  • Build relationships across all Pfizer sites (R&D, manufacturing, commercial and global business services) – and their global partners – to secure an aligned All Ireland approach to external activities and leverage all assets to support our common goals
  • Create and deploy communications for corporate & brand specific initiatives to deliver outcomes aligned to: local corporate affairs strategic plan; regional comms vision and mission; and above-market R&D, manufacturing and global business services’ goals
  • Define relevant KPIs for comms campaigns & activities, measure them and derive learnings. Share outcomes within reporting line and with CLT/Country Manager/Site leads.
  • Guide executives/ site leads / CLT members for external engagements and develop talking points and briefing materials.
  • Lead content development for local corporate website.
  • Ensure high-quality cooperation with our agency partners.
  • Monitor media and share outcomes.
  • Anticipate issues and manage them on a local level.
  • Act as thought partner to marketing organization, as requested, on disease awareness and other above-brand external communications
KEY SKILLS
  • Working and multi-tasking under pressure, respond quickly to changing situations in complex project environments, prepare responses/narrative quickly.
  • Ability to apply needed compliance processes including relevant approval processes.
  • Excellent writing and verbal skills adapted to suit needs of all communication channels with excellent attention to detail, consistency and quality
  • Strong networker with a demonstrated ability to leverage a complex internal matrix to deliver aligned results
  • Strong project management skills
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
  • Graduate or Graduate equivalent
  • Communications background, with ~8 years’ experience, preferably in health/pharma
  • Established working relationships with national level health and business journalists
  • Understanding of measurement and metrics across traditional and digital channels
  • Native English language speaker
  • Strategic thinking capability
  • Knowledge of local healthcare system
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • University degree preferred
