Kia ora, Talofa lava, Bula, Malo e lelei and Hello! Local Government NewZealand is working in proud partnership with Hauraki District Council (HDC) onthis critical role. In accordance with the Local Government Act, this role isoffered as a fixed-term for a 5 year period. Here is youropportunity to make a real difference in the community, working to deliver theessential services that make the Hauraki District a great place to live. TheHauraki District is made up of 3 main wards, with over 20 villages/settlements,accessible to beautiful beaches, walkways, cycle tracks and easy access tomajor cities. HDC providesservices across a range of areas including roading, waters, parks andrecreation, libraries, cemeteries, animal management, rubbish and recycling,community events and so much more! The Council is alsoresponsible for ensuring that all activities are conducted with a Te Ao Māorilens, building strong relationships with Iwi, Hapūand other Māori/Māori organisations. The Chief Executiveat HDC reports to the Council through the Mayor. The CE has 5 direct reports,and indirectly leads a team of around 230 people. The CE is responsible for anoperating budget of approximately $58mil, and a capital budget of approximately$38mil. The CE isresponsible for the delivery of HDCs Strategic Plan, including all Counciloperations. The role acts as a strategic advisor to the Mayor and Council. The CE leads in away that embodies the HDC values of Kōreorero (Communication), Whakaute(Respect), Manawanui (Commitment) and Ngākau reka (Positive Attitude) that formthe core of how HDC kaimahi carry out their mahi and conduct interactions withothers. These values shape the culture of HDC and demonstrates what isimportant within HDC. This is ‘The Hauraki Way’. You will be a seniorleader, with demonstrated experience in developing and leading high performingteams. You will be financially competent, have experience in developing and deliveringto strategic plans, and working with a governing body. With a strong understanding of thehistory of Aotearoa New Zealand and agood understanding of the significance of and obligations under Te Tiriti oWaitangi, you can apply Te Tiriti principles in a meaningful way. You will also have a competency with Te AoMāori, Tikanga, and Te Reo Māori or a commitment to starting your journey andtaking ownership of your learning and growth. Ideally, you have strong experience building relationshipsand partnerships with Māori. Experience in local governmentprocesses would be an advantage but it is not necessary – political awareness andsensitivity is a must as is experience working in a complex and regulatedenvironment.
