About the Company: This exciting opportunity is with a New Zealand Crown Entity with locations across the country – Christchurch/Wellington/Auckland. There overall mission is to ensure the safety of the NZ public by safeguarding environmental and social wellbeing of people, focussing on food sources and economies, protecting water resources, and providing forensic support to the justice system. About the Role: I n this role you will be joining the Data and Analytics team where you will report into the Business Intelligence & Analytics Manager. The teams core focus is looking after the enterprise data warehouse and BI reporting and dashboards. This is an intermediate level role where you will be working closely with a senior data warehouse modeller who will mentor you , forging the opportunity to learn, upskill and grow your experience. The team are currently working on the migration from a legacy on-prem data warehouse to Snowflake. You will play a key role in redesigning and reshaping the new data warehouse in Snowflake and given the opportunity to use cloud-based tools like dbt, along with FiveTran & Tableau. A key element to your role will be requirement gathering from business/end users/data owners and legal/compliance (data governance and privacy), ensuring requirements are translated into specifications for the data warehouse engineers to develop the data warehouse artifacts. Key parts of the process involve:
- Working with end users to understand the information requirements and business process.
- Profiling and analysing the source application data models to map source to target and document any associated transformation rules.
- Using the Kimball dimensional modelling techniques to design/architect the required data warehouse tables/structures that need to be developed.
- Turning this into a set of data requirements.
- Managing requirements, architectural design, business process, data quality, privacy and governance documentation.
- A must have technical skill is experience and knowledge of SQL.
- Soft skills and the ability to build relationship with business stakeholders is key.
- Business analysis experience is desirable.
- Previous experience in dimensional data modelling and data transformation, such as Kimball would be beneficial.
- Familiarity with the data warehouse life cycle.
