As stewards of the province's financial affairs, we deliver a wide range of corporate fiscal and management services - including the preparation of the provincial budget, forecast updates, and financial advice to departments, crown corporations and other public service entities. About Our Opportunity The Director Financial Advisory Services is responsible for providing strategic direction and technical leadership in the development of fiscal management strategy to assist the province in meeting its shared services objectives. As the Director Financial Advisory Services, you will provide guidance and direction to a team supporting the client Departments of Service Nova Scotia and Cyber Security and Digital Solutions. This position reports to the Executive Director of Financial Advisory Services Primary Accountabilities In support of the above client departments you will be responsible for: Budgeting, forecasting, year-end audit requirements, and accountability reporting. Managing operational budget submissions. Ensure that expenditures are accounted for in adherence to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), Public Sector Accounting Board (PSAB) and government policies. Oversee the creation of briefing material, including power point documents. Provide financial advice, recommendations and assistance to senior management such as Associate Deputy Ministers, Deputy Ministers and Ministers. Qualifications and Experience This may be the right opportunity for you if you have a university degree in business, commerce, or public administration and a professional accounting designation (CPA, CGA, CMA, CA). Several years of progressive financial management experience, preferably in a large organization, is also required. As the successful candidate, you will possess a broad base of experience in budget development, forecasting, and financial accounting reporting. Demonstrated ability in leading and engaging a team is a must. This position requires an aptitude to deal with complex issues, strong analytical skills, tact and diplomacy, capacity for decisive action, and the ability to influence. You are a seasoned leader and excellent communicator with several years of experience engaging a variety of stakeholders. While not required, it is considered an asset if you have knowledge and experience in government financial policies and procedures.
