With offices across Canada, we leverage the experience of our 250+ Kasian team members to deliver innovative and unique design solutions in multiple market sectors: commercial, workplace, healthcare, senior living, industrial, transportation, post-secondary and other public opportunities.The OpportunityWe are seeking a motivated and passionate Senior Designer to complement our Vancouver office, where we are involved in exciting work across a range of building types including commercial, mixed-use, retail, industrial, hospitality, public buildings, and healthcare. You will provide design leadership on various projects. May oversee the entire design process or assist as a technical expert on specialized design and act as a design resource for specific components of projects. May work on several concurrent projects of varying sizes, including those that are large and complex. Assist in the education and development of design staff. Healthcare design experience is essential.Leadership CompetenciesThought Leadership Educates others to improve the calibre of designManagement and Operations Provide leadership, training, and mentorship to intermediate and junior staffBusiness Development Build relationships with clients by responding to program and budget requirementsMay assist with business development through contributing to proposals, attending interviews, etc.Here's what you'll be doing at Kasian:Project PlanningWork with the Project Manager (PM) to create work plans, drawing lists, scope of services, budgets, and staffing requirementsReview and monitor project scope and initiate corrective actions in cooperation with PMProject Delivery Lead the Kasian design process through the creation of design concepts, generation of presentation material and required submission documentationResponsible for conceptual design excellence; initiate concepts and discussions of ideasProvide guidance to the design teamImplement design standards and guidelinesLead and take responsibility for delivery of project design, including coordination of design, production, contract administration, and financial success of multiple projectsWork with technical and contract administration staff to produce successful design development and contract documentation in alignment with Kasian's standards of quality, client program, and budget needs including coordinating project specifications and ensuring overall design intentLead project meetings and client presentations, or co-chair with Project Manager/ Project DirectorInteract with clients on a broad range of sensitive administrative and management issues which could include escalation in areas such as invoicing, contract interpretation, scheduling, and content of deliverablesWork with authorities having jurisdiction to interpret and conform to codes and bylawsMay prepare contract documents and specificationsProperly maintain project recordsCoordinate building and development permit submissions,Project ReviewAdvise supervisor immediately of any project performance issues and work with them to resolve problems including ongoing review of project quality and monitoring of budget and scheduleParticipate in the peer review process for Kasian projectsHere's what you bring to Kasian:B. Arch or M. Arch from an accredited architectural program coupled with a minimum of 10+ years of architectural experience; 5 years minimum in healthcare projects.Registration with a provincial regulatory board an assetCapable of providing leadership in designStrong technical backgroundStrong software skills, Revit is considered an assetExcellent time management and teamwork skillsEffective written and oral communication skillsDetailed knowledge of applicable building codes and by-lawsAdvanced knowledge of construction practicesSalary starts at $83,000 + per annum, based on a 40-hour work week.
