HOURS:Full time (hybrid office)

Weizmann Canada is seeking a dynamic, national leader in philanthropy to serve as its Chief Development Officer. The qualified candidate will join a small team of dedicated professionals in Canada as well as a larger global family of professionals around the world who share the Weizmann Institute's mission of science for the future of humanity.

Serving as deputy to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and an essential member of the senior leadership team, the Chief Development Officer (CDO) will, with the CEO, lead the revenue generation functions of the organization towards the realization of our strategic objective: to be Canada's preeminent fundraising organization in support of elite basic scientific research.

The Chief Development Officer will play a critical role in the management structure, reporting to the Chief Executive Officer and working closely with the Vice President. The CDO will be a highly experienced, collaborative, innovative, visionary leader with exceptional communication and management skills, and a successful background in national major gift fundraising on behalf of leading non-profit institutions.

The CDO will provide vision, strategic direction, and leadership for the fundraising program and teams.

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The CDO will work with the Vice President, report into the CEO and play a leadership role in all mission- critical areas of revenue generation including the fundraising team. As a senior leader for fundraising, the CDO will be responsible for raising significant funds and overseeing all new solicitation activity for the annual and major gift programs up to $5M. The CDO will be responsible, with the CEO, for achieving annual revenue targets through effective management of the frontline team.

The CDO will be expected to operate flexibly, with initiative and confidence, and exemplify the culture and values of the organization, acting as a role model for others and operating as part of a collective and collaborative senior leadership team.

LEADERSHIP GIFTS

Lead by example, participating in and overseeing all leadership gift solicitations of $1M - $5M+ Work directly with the CEO and executive leadership at the Weizmann Institute to generate ambitious giving opportunities that will inspire prospective donors to make transformational gifts of seven- and eight-figures

Utilize mastery in innovation, relationship- building, negotiation, and stewardship to close principal gifts at the highest levels in global philanthropy

Create short and long-term strategies and tactics to maximize revenue while ensuring the development of a pipeline of future major gifts donors

Develop, implement, and track comprehensive metrics targets for major gifts activities

TALENT MANAGEMENT

Attract leading fundraising talent to the organization through proven professional success

Partner with other leaders on the team to ensure onboarding, training, and continuing education opportunities are available to fundraising staff

Mentor and inspire fundraising team members to produce exceptional results, overcome challenges, and identify opportunities for career growth

Provide thought leadership to non- fundraising areas of the organization to ensure alignment with overarching strategic goals

KEY SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

15-20 years demonstrable experience of leading and inspiring a high performing, multifaceted fundraising team

15+ years' experience in major gift fundraising

Proven track record in establishing, monitoring, and achieving ambitious targets Experience operating at a senior level

Evidence of supporting successful major gift campaign management

Demonstrable capacity to analyze, think critically, strategically and to innovate, both to promote innovation and resolve/respond to problems

Highly entrepreneurial, and resourceful with the ability to take initiative when the situation demands it

A motivational leadership style, inspiring and empowering others in a constructive and collaborative way

Ability to build and maintain strong relationships internally and externally

Possess good analytical and problem-solving skills including the ability to work with a range of numerical and other data

Ability to handle multiple deadlines, shifting priorities and rapid change with ease Strong project management skills in facilitation and delivery, backed up by excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize appropriately

A combination of personal sensitivity, creativity and tact that is needed when working with senior academics, development colleagues and prospective major donors

Ability to communicate concepts and ideas drawing on relevant data as appropriate. Excellent negotiation skills with gravitas and diplomacy

Excellent social skills and cultural understanding, and a high level of communication skills, both oral and written

EDUCATION

University degree (minimum undergraduate) and/or CFRE

In this role you will be reporting to the National Executive Director & CEO, Susan Stern. Susan has been with the organization since 2005. Her leadership style can be described as having tenacity, drive and resourcefulness. She is deeply passionate and has high standards for herself and the people around her.
