To oversee site inspections and quality checks on substation projects; be responsible for the organization, implementation, and scheduling of quality checks on equipment (power transformers, HV and MV switchgear, cabling, protection and control panels and equipment, battery chargers and batteries, civil scope (control buildings, fencing, substation platforms and structural steelwork))Reporting to : Project ManagerQualifications/ Experience:Quality Management and Quality Inspector CoursesMinimum Requirements:The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required:Electrical/Civil Engineering diploma and/or relevant trade More than 5 years' experience as a Clerk of Work/Site Supervisor on Eskom Transmission orDistribution substations (up to 132kV)Detailed understanding of substation civil and electrical scope (Eskom Transmission or DistributionDetailed knowledge of Eskom Transmission or Distribution substation standardsDetailed knowledge and understanding of OEM and Eskom Quality Inspection and test PlansAbility to read and interpret electrical engineering drawings and schematicsAbility to read and interpret civil engineering drawingsSome experience of substation equipment testing, and commissioning will be advantageousDriver's License and own Responsibilities:The major responsibility of this position is to ensure quality of work on substation sites across SA.The position will involve liaising with Eskom Quality personnel, Engineers and Project Adherence to Quality system on siteReporting on any non-conformances to the Construction Manager and Project ManagerIssuing NCRs to subcontractors and suppliers in line with Quality systemEnsure that the multidisciplinary engineering and design intent is being carried through the construction phase, supporting safe, successful construction completion and ensuring commissioning and start-up success.Develops an effective Quality Assurance and Quality Control teamDevelops plans to continually improve departmental performanceEnsures the required level of Quality during the Construction PhaseMeasure and control the Quality performance of the EPC contractor on siteEnsure the custody of engineering assets (tools), including data, software, computers and other hardware and intellectual propertyAcquire and develop tools needed for an effective, competitive, and cost-efficient serviceCoordinate tools acquisition and developmentParticipate in the project management teamManage individual quality membersManage KPIs of subordinatesCompile all required QMS documents to conduct and control a successful projectManage the development and maintenance of Quality Management SystemsDevelop and maintain system for measuring project Quality performanceCoordinate functional quality auditsManage and report on the quality on all sitesAlign the quality activities and personnel to further the project objectivesEnsure processes are in place to upgrade competence and skills at all levelsEnsure that safe construction practices, policies and procedures are in place to achieve targets as per project planSupport the implementation of site HR practicesSupport the implementation of any SHE initiativesInterpret quality information and initiate and monitor corrective action and quality improvement programsProvide a handover procedure / systemEnsure the quality produced on the Project is to the required procedures / specificationsKeep up with state of the art in the field of QualityControl of concessionsControl of non-conformancesPlan, organize, lead, control and develop subordinates' activities, set goals and objectives for the team, monitor and provide feedbackConduct and participate in Performance Reviews for sub-functionPersonal Attributes:Ability to work under pressureAbility to interact and work on different levelsAbility to prioritise and time managementHave good communication and negotiating skillsGood coaching and knowledge transferring skillsGood conceptual and analytic problem solvingCompetent in conflict and crisis management skillsSelf-disciplined and motivatedStrong team player
