Ensure effective management and ownership of departmental improvement and development programs are achieved and operational decisions made and executed in a timely manner in order to meet department and site objectives. To effectively manage operational issues through use of improvement techniques and problem-solving skills to enhance departmental performance and compliance. To co-ordinate and manage the reactive activities in the department ensuring that these occur in accordance with regulatory requirements and all scheduling requirements to ensure they have minimal impact to the operational plan Provide clear management and leadership of a team of engineers to effectively complete day-to-day maintenance and testing as per schedule. Effective and collaborative working relationship with the Production Teams and Engineering support functions. Fully involved with root cause analysis for resolving issues and implementing long term solutions to provide the required CAPA’s. Develop and implement reliability best practices to ensure equipment performance and efficiencies are maximised and robust individual and team development plans to allow upskilling of the team members. Manage change within the area of responsibility and provide clear development plans for the team.

  • To work collaboratively with the engineering management team and engineering technicians to achieve the relevant targets by showing strong teamwork and individual involvement in achievement of agreed work schedules.
  • To organise the supply of all resources, including the team, in order to meet the agreed production schedules in accordance with GMP and HSE requirements including all legislative activities such as PSSR, LOLLER etc.
  • To ensure appropriate training and development of the team is in place for system improvements and the training is documented as per procedure.
  • Actively promotes a safety culture and raise and correct Near Misses / Accident & Incident reports when required. Provides ongoing support for investigations and reports where required.
  • To ensure appropriate standards of GMP, housekeeping, safety and discipline are applied within the wok area, in accordance with the Orange Guide and CFR regulations. This includes completion of all GMP commitments to plan – specifically relating to accuracy of documentation, close out of GMP investigations, change controls and corrective actions.
  • To manage departmental budgets to comply with production resource and demand requirements. To ensure resources are available to achieve the planned level of activity and effective flexibility across the team is in place.
  • To continuously explore and identify new and improved processes targeted at improvement in quality and operational performance. To complete specific projects relating to operational issues, including the identification, introduction of new equipment, processes and contract business.
  • To investigate and report on potential quality defects within the department and contribute to providing the appropriate CAPA’s.
  • To actively seek and recommend ways and methods of eliminating waste and increase efficiency and reduce costs by aligning with the site maintenance and reliability strategy.
  • To be accountable for the development of equipment maintenance to ensure the most effective maintenance is executed to enhance performance, efficiency and availability.
Knowledge, Skills & Competencies
  • Must have well-developed interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Flexibility and the ability to work under pressure are essential. A positive and proactive approach is needed to aid resolution of issues.
  • Demonstrate strong Leadership, influencing and collaborative cross functional working.
  • High standard of numeracy and literacy are essential together with excellent attention to detail.
  • Team management and clear development of teams
  • Proven Operational Excellence skills and proven experience in implementing OE systems.
Minimum Education Requirements
  • Degree in Engineering, (mechanical/electrical/chemical), or engineering HNC
  • Desirable to be a Chartered Engineer
Minimum Experience Requirements
  • Substantial experience in Pharmaceutical / Chemical / FMCG manufacturing Industry at a team leadership level.
