Job Description

JOB PURPOSE: Plan, organize, direct and manage the effective and efficient implementation of the Safety Department and processes, in order to ensure highest level of compliance to the International aviation safety standards and policies, and conformance to the best international industry practices. as well as the safety of aviation operations at Bahrain International Airport. Description Main Safety Planning and Leadership Activities Formulate, develop and lead the implementation of the: Corporate Safety global strategies and policies in order to ensure the protection ,interests and the compliance with the accepted International Aviation standards and local regulations; Develop and maintain the overall Airside Safety programs, processes, standards, guidelines and procedures to meet regulatory requirements and which extend to all service providers and/or users of the Airport. Design and manage an on-going Airside Safety risk assessment strategy to accurately identify safety business priorities and risks and determine the required priorities for safe and secure airport operations; Oversee and coordinate safety efforts across the company, in close cooperation with the information technology, human resources, communications, legal, facilities management and other relevant areas; Provide specialist advice to support strategic planning, development, procurement and operation across the organization related to safety by reviewing and approving of safety project provisions, technology and equipment; Provide specialist advice on the potential impact of any new legislation or regulations relating to international aviation Safety ; Organize and lead the Aerodrome Safety Committee meetings, and maintain updated meeting minutes; Establish and maintain effective liaison with other airport departments and relevant local safety government authorities and law enforcement agencies; Carry out any other activities requested by the CEO. Delivery in terms of timeliness, budget, and outcome against plans Value added from developed programs Comprehensive and feasibility of programs standards, guidelines and procedures and degree of positive impact on overall Aerodrome safety No. of and level of findings / Non-compliances closed. Safety Management System l Model and promote an organizational culture that fosters safety practices through effective leadership; Develop, implement and maintain a proactive and preventive oriented Safety Management System in order to enhance the safety of Airside operations; Demonstrate an excellent safety behavior and attitude, follows regulatory practices and rules, recognizes and reports hazards and promotes effective safety reporting; Act as an information conduit to bring safety issues to the attention of management and to deliver safety information to the organization’s staff, contractors and stakeholders; Assist in the continuous improvement of the hazard identification and safety risk assessment schemes and the organization’s SMS; Represents the organization on government, international organization and industry committees Analyze data for trends related to hazards, events and occurrences; lManage the operation of the safety management system; Analyze safety information and evaluate the results of corrective actions; Ensure that risk assessments are conducted when applicable; Monitor the industry for safety concerns that could affect the organization; Assist in actual or exercise emergency responses and the development and updating of the emergency response plan and procedures; JOB CONTEXT: High pressure environment with demanding deadlines and will require the ability to deal with pressure, adapt priorities and respond rapidly to unpredictable situations; Accountable for the effective implementation of the defined Corporate Safety Strategy by leading the assigned resources; Whilst not having line responsibility for 24/7 operations, must ensure that safety standards and awareness are maintained to the highest level at all times; Work in highly sensitive and critical environment and will require considerable discretion and the highest levels of integrity; Work mostly in a managerial environment but will often need to move around the airport in order to ensure the effective implementation of the safety processes; Must be prepared to work long hours; May be required to represent on various Aerodrome Safety forums or bodies, both in Bahrain and abroad.

Desired Candidate Profile

QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE, & SKILLS: University degree in Aviation Management Safety, Engineering, or other equivalent relevant qualification ACI Safety Management Diploma A quality management certification amongst any other certifications and or academic qualifications. Trained in human factors and behavioral safety techniques Minimum of 10 years of experience in Aerodrome Safety ,with over 3 to 5 years’ experience in a similar role Experience of promoting a positive safety culture in a multi-stakeholder environment Demonstrated experience in developing, implementing of Aerodrome Safety processes and procedures, and in successfully and effectively managing a Safety team Experience in managing change within a live operational environment Job Specific Skills: Strong management and leadership skills together with excellent communication, influencing, negotiating and engagement skills. Sound judgment and decision making skills, with a ‘hands on’, problem solving approach, able to remain calm under pressure and take control of incidents. Knowledge – Sound knowledge of aviation safety operations within an airport environment that includes in depth exposure to Aviation safety standards and requirements. Thorough knowledge of ICAO, FAA, IATA and other related international standards. Demonstrated ability to interpret and implement the provisions of newly enacted legislation and accompanying legislation. Professionalism – Excellent skills in information collection and analysis procedures with a view to recognizing potential threats and dangers. Ability to exercise sound and strong management skills in times of crisis and emergencies.
