Full Job Description

The Clinical Midwife is responsible for competently providing safe andeffective care to Women during pregnancy labor and delivery andtheir newborn babies in the postpartum period with minimal supervisionby the Clinical Nurse Leader Clinical Midwife Leader The ClinicalMidwife assesses care needs plans implements and evaluates programsof care The Clinical Midwife is responsible for ensuring that allduties are carried out to the highest possible standard aligned toHospital s Standards of Practice The Clinical Midwife participates inthe supervision orientation and training of staff and is responsiblefor education of patients families and students The Clinical Midwifeis professionally accountable to the Chief Nursing Officer Reportsdirectly to Clinical Nurse Midwife Manager Professionalism andEthical Practice Practices within the DHP Scope of Practiceaccording to licensure within the State of Qatar Assumesresponsibility for the delegation of aspects of care deliveryProvides total individualized womancentered care and assumesresponsibility and accountability for assessing planningimplementing and evaluating care during the antepartum intrapartumand postpartum periods discharge planning for each woman her babyand family Ensure timely documentation of care discharge planningand family education aligned to Hospital s standards of documentationPractices as an expert practitioner demonstrating critical andanalytical thinking by problem solving and escalating appropriatelyin the process of care delivery in the client group Independentlyinitiates escalation of issues following the chain of commandutilizing resources as needed Independently maintains licensure andregulatory requirements e g life support certifications and CPDrequirements Meets requirements of organizational profession anddepartmental role specific orientation competencies Role model sappearance and behaviors that promote a positive image of midwiferyAdheres to time and attendance requirements Participates in newstaff student orientation assists in maintaining a suitable learningenvironment and acts as a preceptor mentor in the supervision andteaching of new staff students to develop their competenceActively participates and or contributes the Shared Leadershipstructure to promote and embed Shared Leadership Woman and FamilyCentered Care Provides holistic woman and family centered carebased on evidence and best practice Anticipates and responds towoman and family care requirements that involve the preconceptionantepartum intrapartum and postpartum periods provides newborn carefamily planning Provides holistic care to women during labourdetects complications and abnormalities and initiates appropriateemergency interventions and escalates concerns Conducts normalbirths when required and carries out designated roles and tasks inthe event of surgical intervention Promotes the access of medicalcare and assistance to pregnant women as needed Provides advice onthe promotion of health and wellbeing Evaluates learning needs ofthe woman and or family and provides appropriate educational programand family education Maintains confidentiality at all timesTeamwork and Collaboration Treats colleagues patients andvisitors with dignity and respect at all times Promotes andmaintains effective communication and teamwork Promotescollaborative working within the Multidisciplinary team understandingthe role of all members Demonstrates collaborative and respectfulbehavior Contributes to a positive work environment Evidence BasedPractice Adheres to Hospital s Nursing and Midwifery Standards ofPractice Ensures Woman centered health care is based on bestevidence Promotes and supports breastfeeding in alignment with thecurrent WHO UNICEF Guidelines Quality Improvement Identify ways toimprove services through quality improvement initiativesParticipates in quality improvement initiatives and measure outcomesContributes effective use of resources and identifies anyopportunities for efficiency Participates in investigation ofclinical incidents for safety and quality improvement SafetyAcknowledges own limitations in knowledge judgment and or skills andfunctions within those limitations Demonstrates consistent andreliable use of technology and standardized practices that supportsafety and quality Communicates observations or concerns related tohazards and errors to patients families and the health care teamUse organizational error reporting systems for near miss and eventreporting Demonstrates effective use of strategies to reduce riskof harm to self or others Assumes responsibility and accountabilityfor own clinical decision delegation and provides supervision to teammembers according to their competence and scope of practiceInformatics Accurately concisely and appropriately documents careinterventions and outcomes in a timely manner Practicescontemporaneous documentation ensuring entries into the medicalrecord are recorded and signed in real time Utilizes data from thepatient record to make decisions and responds appropriately toclinical decision making supports and alerts Protectsconfidentiality of protected health information in electronic healthrecords Follows all Hospital related policies and proceduresPerforms other
